Biden pardons Marijuana Convictions

Post by TC Talks » Thu Oct 06, 2022 4:38 pm

As we are inevitably heading towards the legalization of marijuana across the Nation, it's about time the federal government bring marijuana off a schedule 1 classification and clear the records of thousands of people arrested for possession.

Without a doubt marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and the sooner we realize it is a therapy for PTSD and opioid addiction the sooner we add another tool to help addicts and veterans heal.

Nationally, marijuana legalization currently has a 64% favorable on polls. Five more states will legalize in the next year and the push will keep going until Nebraska and Alabama are the only States left where marijuana is illegal.
WASHINGTON — President Biden on Thursday pardoned all people convicted of marijuana possession under federal law and said his administration would review whether marijuana should still be a Schedule 1 drug like heroin and LSD, saying that “makes no sense.”

The pardons will clear about 6,500 people who were convicted on federal charges of simple possession of marijuana from 1992 to 2021 and thousands more who were convicted of possession in the District of Columbia, officials said ahead of the president’s announcement.

Mr. Biden urged governors to follow his lead for people convicted on state charges of simple possession. The number of convictions under state laws vastly outnumbers those who have been charged with a violation of federal laws, limiting the overall reach of the president’s actions on Thursday.

Still, the moves — which come about a month before the midterm elections — represent striking shifts for the federal government on a campaign promise that Mr. Biden made in 2020.

“Sending people to jail for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives — for conduct that is legal in many states,” Mr. Biden said on Twitter on Thursday. “That’s before you address the clear racial disparities around prosecution and conviction. Today, we begin to right these wrongs.”

What stopped him from doing it from January, 2021 until now?

What's more pathetic: harassing an old man who is paying to do a radio show or supporting a grifter like Trump?

Of course, you have to assume stoners can remember to vote...

TC Talks previously called Trump's 237 pardons a "blitz" and Lester the Nightfly referred to them as a "Pardon-palooza"

https://mibuzzboard.com/phpBB3/viewtopi ... 24&t=53067

So I'm curious, if 237 pardons are a blitz or a palooza, then what does that make Biden's 6,578 pardons - already more than any other President in history, and he's not even halfway through his first term?

(as an aside, I"m not necessarily against what Biden has done here, though I do think any en-masse pardons of this nature would be more appropriately done more as an expungement of criminal records AFTER the federal laws are repealed - the laws of which still exist).

That's not bad. I was thinking Pardon extravaganza or par-don-a-thon, but Pardon-O-Rama fits better.

I gotta give it to Biden - when he does something, he goes big. Vaccine or testing mandates for 100,000,000 people, $10,000 worth of debt forgiveness for over 20,000,000 people, thousands upon thousands of pardons. Can't wait to see what the second half of his presidency brings. Maybe in 2023 he'll drop a couple thousand nukes in areas with heavy concentrations of Trump supporters; we can call that insurrectionist purge, or perhaps more accurately, the "literal Final Solution."

Seems to have a rather messy level of collateral damage…

BMW does love drama when a politician takes action to help those exploited by police. Conservative victimhood at its best.

I bet in 6 years, when Biden has left office, he won't have 7 criminal and civil legal situations to deal with like our previous president.

So you're making accusations of "police exploitation" victims, and then literally in the very next breath, calling out "conservative" victims.

You're a real piece of work.

And you still haven't answered my question. If a few hundred pardons is a "blitz," then what is 6,000?
