Justice Alito did not shout "you lie!" during an Obama SOTU address. That outburst came from a Republican congressman. And, yes, that outburst at that moment was completely inappropriate. I believe the culprit did apologize publicly the next day, if I remember correctly.

My mistake... wrong incident. Alito mouthed “not true” during Obama’s criticism of citizens united introducing dark money into elections and that being a bad thing for the nation In the 2012 SOTU I believe. Obama turned out to be right. That ruling has been most detrimental to the democracy.

As to the handshake issue - I watched the video, several times. Whether he saw her reach out for a handshake is not definitive given how quickly the interaction took place - he was already turning around. Even if he saw it - would you shake the hand of the very person who is publicly using his/her power to attempt to throw you out of office?

To take the higher road and let her look foolish later by pulling a stunt like the speech being torn up? Hell yes... what moron wouldn’t? Now they look dead even and it’s a draw in the jackass department.

His speech had some pretty big whoppers... healthcare for illegals (that nobody is proposing) and keeping protections for preexisting conditions while his administration has a lawsuit to end those same protections. I’m sure you’ll be right there to criticize both of those outright lies.

I didn’t like the Southern congressman yelling “You lie!” at President Obama during his SOTU speech, nor Justice Alito shaking his head and mouthing ‘Not true” when constitutional scholar Obama predicted how the Citizen’s United decision would defile our elections with dark money - as long as it stands.

And now - we saw loud Trump-rally-like clapping and chanting in unison from Rpooplicans, also groups of lawmakers wearing the same color responding out loud, in unison to the president, various people rudely walking out of the chamber, the parent of a Parkland school shooting victim who Pelosi invited to the speech - shouting about gun control - and being escorted out. As well as The president not shaking the speaker’s hand. Then SHE ripping up the copy of Trump’s speech!

All that stuff is fine in TV studios, marches and demonstrations in the streets, Trump’s rallies, political conventions, in political ads, and in election night ballrooms. NONE of it belongs on the floor of the House during the SOTU speech. Civility and decorum must be maintained.

I was very disappointed to see Pelosi stoop to Trump’s level. I understand why she felt like ripping up the copy of Trump’s typical scripted lies - complete with made-for-television human props. But to actually act on that angry impulse? She looked like Trump on the distaff side! Low class. Regrettable long term. She should not have taken Trump’s bait. She should have remained authoritative and cool under fire. Like Queen Elizabeth.

Maybe the San Francisco 49ers losing The Superbowl, combined with all the Repooplicans blocking a fair impeachment trial, and Trump’s vomit of daily taunts and mistruths on Twitter - finally pushed her over the edge.
