Is it too soon to declare Spencer Torkelson a bust? Christ, Baez has more homers than him.
Did you forget how well he did last season?
He hit .233
And despite playing in nearly every game with over 600 ABs in the middle of the order he still couldn't reach 100 RBI or an .800 OBS. Still, he's only 24. I say give him time. He does play a good 1B.
Nothing would make me happier to say I'm wrong about him, moldy. And I understand every #1 pick isn't gonna be a Bryce Harper. But he's not shown my a H*** amount of improvement in 2+ years.
So far, he's reminding me a lot of Mike Ivie, remember him? #1 overall pick who never lived up to slugging expectations. He never had a 100 RBI season. I think he ended his career with the Tigers.

Tork did knock in the winning run yesterday, a bloop single to right-center.

Ivie was drafted first overall by San Diego in 1970 as a catcher. He got the Yips in the minors, then moved to first.

He did finish with Detroit in 1982 & 1983.

Ivie had 14 home runs in 82, and was released in May 83.

Did you forget he led the team last year in HR’s with 30?

Give him time

No one has forgotten. A home run is still only one run and one RBI. The more salient stat, in my humble opinion, is how many runs a middle-of-the-order hitter accounts for. You'll see above that I agree, give him time.

He looks like a slow starter.

Stats after 16 games:

2023: 1 HR, 8 RBI's, .222
2023: 0 HR, 6 RBI's, .219

Also, he looks like the best hitter so far from his draft class:

Nice 4-2 comeback win from the Tiggers today. Mize with a quality start and another solid bullpen showing.

Hinch made a gamble that worked, but I disagreed with. Pinch hit for Carpenter who had been 2 for 3 with a double and a triple. Vierling got a hit and keyed the rally, but I still think it was the wrong call. He plays those L/R percentages too much in my mind, especially with Carp.

TORK REPORT: 0 for 3, 2 K's.

The Tigers have played 18 games, or 1/9th of the season. Since the team stats for a full season reflect the efforts of nine hitters, the team stats for 1/9th of a season should reflect 1/9th of a team, that is, the average player.

607 AB
64 runs
129 hits
14 HRs
59 RBIs
60 BB
171 SO
.213 AVG

As of today, the Tigers rank 27th out of 30 teams in average:

https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/_/t ... g/dir/desc

Thank goodness they rank 3rd out of 30 in ERA:

Hope the Tigers learned something this week from a World Championship team that always plays with smarts and awareness (especially on run-down plays between second and third base).

So when are the Tigers going to figure out a way to put Maeda on the injured list and replace him with Manning? Yesterday's game should have been an easy win, with a rookie pitcher giving up seven runs for Texas.

The Tigers are one of the most injury-free teams in baseball (https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/injured-list/current-team/), so something is due to happen.

What in the world did our wunderkind GM see in Maeda to sign him guaranteed for two years? :? And what did I say earlier about Tork playing a good 1B?

It seems the Tigers play better, and smarter, baseball on the road, so get 'em the hell outta' town! :lol

If only for a day, rookie call-up Wenceel Perez is da man! :smokin This despite the earlier faux pas in the outfield which might have made him da goat (small letters).

Meadows has so much range, he should have more authority in the outfield to call off the corner outfielders on fly balls.

Gio Urshela on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.

They have called up Buddy Kennedy from Toledo.

Matt Vierling is starting at 3rd Saturday in Minnesota.

Tigers 2 top infield replacements are hurt so pickings are slim.

Every healthy infielder on the 40 man is with the big club.
