I do think he'll get traded and probably not start tomorrow.moldyoldie wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 12:19 pmI stand corrected, thanks Wouldn't ya think if something's imminent he'd be sitting?Honeyman wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 12:13 pmThink it's a bullpen day today. Lost two out of three to the Twins. You can probably finally stick a fork in the 2024 Tigers.
Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Carson Kelly was traded to Texas for a couple of Double A players.
Catcher Liam Hicks and pitcher Tyler Owens.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Obviously Dingler is getting called up, which is why he was out of Toledo’s lineup today. He should get most of the playing time, but Hinch will likely stick with more or less an even split.
Hicks is 25 and still in Double-A. Likely roster filler. Owens could develop into a decent middle reliever.

Beyond stupid.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Though Dingler's bat has seemingly improved exponentially this season, reading he's hitting only .154 against fastballs over 95 mph gives me pause. Sounds like another Tork.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Kelly is essentially a backup catcher. It's a decent haul for him. They weren't getting a starting pitcher or position player, or top prospect.
There is talk Hicks may report to Toledo instead of Erie though he is listed on the latter's roster as of now. The Hens only have veteran journeyman Bemboom, so either Hicks or an Erie catcher would likely get the spot. That increases their chances of making the majors as a backup catcher.
Owens is the player with the higher upside.
Speaking of prospects, Jung has been horrendous at third. Under .900 fielding, and that's only official errors. His bat looks decent, certainly powerwise, but we have one DH in Malloy as it is.

Flaherty scratched, likely to be traded at any time. Baez on bereavement list, Lucas sent to Toledo. Dingler, Kriedler, and lefty Bryan Sammons coming up from Toledo.
They also picked up a reliever and optioned him to Toledo.

They had to scratch Flaherty just in case. Yankees might bite

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
It's funny, at the outset of the season I was thinking the Tigers would possibly go with a six-man starting rotation once they started playing everyday. Now with Flaherty presumably on his way out, we have only ONE of those starters in the rotation. Incredible! The 3Ms of Maeda, Mize, and Manning, plus Olsen, are either out or kaput.
Leyland was right, you can never have enough pitching.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
If that's the case, I feel sorry for the 18,387 people who bought tickets for last night's game, with the chance to see a good pitcher against a division rival.
But if what you say is true, it was more important for Scott Harris to make Flaherty available to the Yankees (and other teams) than to the Tigers, even though Flaherty is still under contract to the Tigers.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
At the 2/3 post of the season, the Tigers are 52-56, which projects to 78-84, the same record as last year. If Flaherty is traded, it will probably be worse.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Last night, Dan Dickerson was salivating about Sammons' 7.1 innings of relief work. So what if he gave up five runs, extending Cleveland's lead from a competitive 3-0 to a depressing 8-0. The most important thing now for the Tigers is to have enough rested relievers for the next bullpen game.moldyoldie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 7:09 amIt's funny, at the outset of the season I was thinking the Tigers would possibly go with a six-man starting rotation once they started playing everyday. Latest report at 3:52pm is that the Dodgers, Yankees, and BoSox are all in discussions on Flaherty.
And Bally Sports is back on Comcast starting Aug. 1. At this point I don't know if that's good or bad.
