Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Vilade got optioned to Toledo for no reason.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
They wanted a left handed bat, which Madris is. Has some pop but a poor batting average. He's also past prospect age at 28. Ceiling now is power off the bench. I agree Vilade is a better player with more promise, despite some struggles in the outfield this weekend.
They called up a reliever to replace Olson.
Max Clark has been promoted to West Michigan. On pace to be in a Tigers uniform by the end of 2026.

We've all been anxiously waiting for Riley Greene to play in 100 games in a season. He's now at 99—and injured (https://sports.yahoo.com/detroit-tigers ... 02505.html).
All along the icy wastes, there are faces smiling in the gloom.
Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
It seems certain that Jack Flaherty will be traded next week, based on all the Internet and radio chatter. Why not keep him? Last year, the Tigers failed to trade Eduardo Rodriguez at the 7/31 trade deadline. After 7/31, Rodriguez went 7-4 (https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... g_gamelogs) and the Tigers were 31-25 (https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 2023-07-30).
Why don't the Tigers try to end the season with a winning record, and use that as a foundation for next year—like the Red Wings did earlier this year. If the Tigers lose Flaherty, they still have a good recent record of signing pitchers to one-year deals and watching them improve (Lorenzen, Flaherty).

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
I highly predict Flaherty and a catcher will be traded. 50/50 on Skubal. If a team were forced to take Baez or Maeda, along with a large majority of their contract to get Skubal (as well as a prospect of course), I’d listen to offers.
Other possibilities are one of the relievers, Ibanez (right handed bench/platoon bat), Urshela (infield depth), and Vierling. Canha is unlikely due to poor performance. Rest of team is either young guys who are cheap, or waiver wire material.
Torkelson hasn’t done much in Toledo, but his youth makes him a possible trade piece. Dingler is another possibility if the Tigers don’t trade a catcher. I wouldn’t move Jung or Jobe, certainly not Clark.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Now, that's something I never considered.
I'd still hate to give up Skubal. I remember Dombrowski trading prevailing ace Jeff Weaver in a three-way deal for three prospects -- only Jeremy Bonderman panned out, though Carlos Peña did have a few good seasons once the Tigers dumped him.( ) Weaver went on to a mostly mediocre career, but did come back to haunt us in that debacle of a 2006 World Series.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Tigers don't have to trade Skubal unless they get a tremendous offer....maybe Holliday from the Orioles. He's under contract thru next year. But he's a Scott Boras client, so after 2025, you know he'll be a free agent.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
97.1 has been on fire this week with talk of a potential Tarik Skubal trade. The discussion always includes the acquisition of Jackson Holliday.
Here's the same discussion from the Orioles fan world, with no mention of Jackson Holliday in the story, but many mentions in the comments:

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
Information I see on his contract status is that Tarik is tied to the tigers through the 2026 season. If..........the tigers were to trade him now, that would pretty much tell tiger fans that the organization is not committed to building a contending team. IMHO.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
I would accept the trade only if we kept Jobe and got a chance to unload Baez along with getting Jackson Holliday, prospects, and another arm.

Tarik Skubal shouldn't be traded in my opinion build around him and show him the $$$ in 2026 so he will be a Tiger for years to come.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024
For once I agree with you. Still in the hunt this year. Albeit barely, still four teams between them and the last wild card spot. This weekend they pretty much need a sweep. Now is the time to stop acting like a small market team.

Greene on the DL yet again, Vilade back up.

Tigers and Astros are talkin' Flaherty. They hosed us with Verlander, why not double-dip? Flaherty's scheduled to start today.

Think it's a bullpen day today. Flaherty is supposed to start tomorrow.moldyoldie wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 11:49 amTigers and Astros are talkin' Flaherty. They hosed us with Verlander, why not double-dip? Flaherty's scheduled to start today.
