Not surprising. NBA coaches usually get a couple seasons now, then get fired.
The Pistons haven't had a coach with a winning record since Flip.

I honestly thought he would be brought back for one more season. Wow - fired on a holiday (Juneteenth) no less!
Gores deserved much of the criticism sent his way over the past couple years, but this move suggests to me he is not tone deaf after all, and is indeed serious about attempting to right the ship.

Now, the $64k question: who will the Pistons hire to replace him?

DTE Energy paid $752 million in dividends to its shareholders last fiscal year. Remember that the next time they ask the MPSC to approve rate hikes.

It will be interesting to see how much the value of the Pistons franchise rises this year, with these personnel changes. I'm guessing it will be more than what they owe Monty Williams.

During their 2:00 pm segment today, Valenti and Rico were positing that the leader in the clubhouse to be the new Pistons coach was JJ Redick.
It didn't age well. Sources say Redick is about to get a four-year deal to coach the Lakers.

Why anyone listens to those hacks is beyond me.

I remember when the Lakers were interested in Monte Williams a few years ago he decided to stay with the Suns. Yeah, I also thought Monte Williams had another before being let go. Will be interesting who the Pistons will be hiring as the next head coach.
Go Pistons, Let's Go Redwings.
Re: Detroit Pistons 2023-24
I’ve come to believe Valenti just makes shit up for entertainment purposes and to rile up callers. Because many of the takes on the show are just ridiculous. Once I came to that conclusion, it made the show much more enjoyable to me. I find them to be very funny from that point of view, just a couple of guys bullshitting about the day.
I lend little to no credence to his Pistons or sports analysis, but he really makes me laugh on my drive home.
As for the Pistons, they’ve gone with the bigger name available coach three times recently. SVG, Casey, and Williams. None have worked out. The roster does not want to play for anybody. Who will want to coach here?

SVG was a good coach but was a lousy POBO. Passing on Mitchell is inexcusable.
Caputo on 97.1 this morning made a great point. He is antsy because Arn Tellem is still in the front office. He is concerned Tellem will get in Gores' ear behind Langdon's back. Caputo stated a REAL housecleaning would've included Tellem being told to hit the road.

Re: Detroit Pistons 2023-24
I'm not very happy with the guy the Pistons took at #5.
An 18 year old who missed the second half of the G-League Ignite season due to a thumb injury, and who cannot hit a jump shot. He is useless from long range. He also is a mediocre FT shooter @ 68 percent.
He is also a puny 200 lbs despite being 6'8". He won't be nearly as effective a defender in the NBA.
They should've selected Donovan Clingan. They will regret not doing so.
They could've also selected a small forward who can actually shoot the damn ball from mid and long range.
This Holland guy sounds like Killian Hayes with quicker wheels.
I give this pick a grade of "D".

I think the Pistons are biased against drafting collegiate players named Donovan.

The Pistons did a great job getting the talk radio hosts and columnists in line. They are all washing Langdon's balls and parroting the same talking points. Jim Costa is a noteworthy exception. His comments this morning are spot-on.

How long has the NBA draft been a two day event? Seems unnecessary...
