Avila wasted so many draft picks on pitching prospects...

This team will be 10 games under .500 before the month is over.

This team was fun to watch a few weeks ago. Always coming back, players rooting for each other. This past week has been absolutely pathetic. The team looks completely dead. Pretty good pitching tonight, but when you have 4 guys in your starting line up who are hitting under .200, a shut out probably shouldn't be too surprising.

They should fire their hitting coach ASAP.

Which one? They have three, thanks to Scott Harris.

Tonights game in Philadelphia was rescheduled for tomorrow due to the Canadian wildlife smoke.

Also cancelled the game in New York.

Boy, that didn't take long. Already 10 games under .500. Maybe they'll be 20 under by month's end!

Our boys are discombobulating. :rolleyes One strike away from a win, then the roof falls in.

LMAO!!! They gave up, what, four runs in the 9th?

This team is total puke garbage. What we all saw in May was a facade.

This team will be paying for years for the mismanagement of Al Avila. I don't envy Scott Harris. This won't be a quick turnaround.

Having said that, the Trop (and practically every other park in baseball) is more homer-friendly than Comerica Park. If Paredes were still a Tiger, I doubt he'd have the power numbers he's shown in Tampa.

Nice come-from-behind late inning win last night against one of the best teams in baseball, beating former teammate Joe Jimenez in the tenth.

I like the suggestion of one of the "Shep-less" commentators last night. Instead of having a runner start extra innings on second base, start him on first base. That way the team at bat has to beat the pitcher instead of the pitcher having to "avoid" a gimme run.

I like this idea too. When you start with a runner on second, you can move the runner home with two (well-directed) fly ball outs. A pitcher can do his job and get three straight outs but still give up a run and lose the game. Seems a bit unfair. But start the runner on first instead, and the team on offense will likely need at least one base hit ("beat the pitcher," as you say) to score the run, to say nothing of other key baseball skills like sacrifices and stolen bases. Seems more equitable.

But since the objective of the rule is to generate runs and prevent lengthy extra-inning bullpen-killing affairs, MLB is probably happy with the way things are.
