Alex Ovechkin hits 800 goals

Congratulations to Ovi for being only the third person to hit 800 goals in his hockey career. He did it tonight and threw in a hat trick making him the number 29th person to achieve as many hat tricks as he has.

He's a once in a generation player and he's the captain of my favorite team.

Ovechkin actually now has 29 hat tricks in his career, which ranks him 6th on the all-time NHL list (trailing Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy, Brett Hull and Phil Esposito). Until last night, Ovi had been tied with Marcel Dionne and Bobby Hull with 28 career hat tricks.

The hits pucks for a living and has weathered decades of scrutiny about his loyalty to many things Russian.

Because, at least for me, while it is intellectually possible to distinguish between Ovechkin the hockey player and Ovechkin the political commentator, it is a leap too far to do so on an emotional basis

Of course Larry can't like Ov, he's a New Yorker pandering to Ranger and Islander fans. These are some of the worse rivalries in the Atlantic Division.

It's certainly not worse than the sexual abuse that comes out of Michigan's college programs.

I do not disagree with you, Rate. I think Lou Anna Simon belongs in prison. But I was just trying to stick with the topic of sports personalities and she really doesn't qualify. Mark Hollis, the AD might qualify.

However, Bo Schembechler definitely does, and he is still being celebrated by the University.
