Why does the Stanford UCLA game have like 3,000 in attendance at the Rose Bowl? UCLA is 12th in the nation.

The fact the Rose Bowl is 27 miles from campus is largely responsible, I suspect.

It's a stupid place for UCLA to play home games, quite honestly.

Compare that to USC, who plays in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, which is directly adjacent to campus.

UCLA needs to play at SoFi, only 10 miles away.

I didn't watch the game but I think attendance was listed as just under 44,000.
I know the NCAA allows tickets sold to count toward attendance whether that sold ticket shows up at the game or not.
I assume your 3,000 number was hyperbole. Otherwise that's a lot of no shows.

They have to play so far away from Los Angeles because it is so smoggy close in. You have to wait for the smog to clear before UCLA.

They had tarp on the upper decks ala Oakland, and the lower bowls were about 20% full. No way there were 44,000 people there. It felt like 2020 noise wise in the stadium.

Lots to do in LA and traffic isn't great either takes 3 hours to go 10 miles in the city so I have heard. I'm sure once UCLA moves to the Big 10 in 2024 The Rose Bowl will be packed with visiting teams, OSU, Michigan, PSU, etc those fans will fill The Rose Bowl up.
