All I'm hearing is how the long anticipated arrival of Riley Greene will suddenly turn around their fortunes. That's quite a burden to lay on a rookie.
Hmm, maybe they were right about this guy! :smokin :D This looks like the team I thought I'd be watching this year...finally!
16 games into his big league career, and he projects to be a near-perfect leadoff hitter (122 runs, 111 walks, .384 OBP)

At the 1/3 mark of the season (54 games), the Tigers are on pace to score 450 runs. That's fewer runs than any team scored in 1968—the Year of the Pitcher. And only one team that year had a lower batting average than the current Tigers (.218).

https://www.baseball-reference.com/leag ... ting.shtml

In most jobs, historically bad performance would be punished. The manager A.J. Hinch has often said that baseball is a game of performance. When are the Tigers going to get a new hitting coach?

Here are the 54-game hitting stats for the 2022 Detroit Tigers: AVG: .218 OBA: .278 AB: 1740 R: 150 H: 380 2B: 69 3B: 7 HR: 30 RBI: 145 BB: 128 SO: 461: SB: 11 CS: 11 E: 31

Other projected stats:
Most runs: 60 (Candelerio)
Most HR: 15 (Schoop)
Most hits: 147 (Cabrera)
Most RBI: 57 (Cabrera)
Highest average: .301 (Cabrera)
Record: 63-99
At the 1/2 mark of the season (81 games), the Tigers are on pace to score 518 runs. That's a slight improvement on the 54-game mark, but it's still pretty low. The average is also up from .218 to .232.

Other projected stats:
Most runs: 54 (Schoop)
Most HR: 14 (Baez and Haase)
Most hits: 156 (Cabrera)
Most RBI: 62 (Cabrera)
Highest averages: .322 (Reyes, 28 games), .308 (Cabrera, 70 games)
Record: 68-94

On the pitching side, one stat that jumps out is the number of starts by different pitchers. Only three have more than 10, led by Skubal (16), followed by two rookies, Brieske (13) and Faedo (11).

And as of today, the Tigers' relievers have the third lowest ERA in all of baseball. Too bad Leyland didn't have this kind of bullpen when he was here—he might have won a world championship.

Where has all this clutch hitting been all season? With a little luck, a few breaks, and a favorable schedule, the Tigers may actually sniff .500 this season! :smokin

Tigers @ Guardians cc 1:30 5:00 comedy…. Watch as a zany GM assembles a madcap cast of misfits as they flail away at wild pitches while standing 6 foot from home plate. Listen as dumbfounded Tiger announcers dwell on exit velocity of opponents home runs, And the owner spews of his content for this debacle. The fun continues as no one is ever held accountable.

Hilarity and hi-jinks ensue next week , stay tuned...

Heard the coach last night in an interview referring to the Indians after the trouncing, saying something like "their hitters came up with some good pitches to hit".

Isn't the job of OUR pitchers to come up with good pitches that are HARD to hit well? Why wouldn't it be "OUR pitchers served up too many GOOD pitches that their hitters too advantage of?"

Tork sent down after Saturday’s game - WAY OVERDUE. Should’ve been sent down a month ago.

Our hitting coach really is overdue also to be fired. We’ve had too many guys hitting at or below the Mendoza line (at one point 5 out of the 9 regular starters) and nothing changed. Miggy has said he wants to stay around the organization once his contract expires. How about making him a player / hitting coach NOW?

One of the Detroit newspaper writers finally figured out that Avila should be fired:

Yet two weeks ago (or even less) on the radio, Wojo was giving Avila the benefit of the doubt and was jumping down the throat of Jeff Riger for being too harsh.

Wojo also complained little if at all about the Verlander and J.D. Martinez trades at the time. Now, many years later, he gets around to criticizing those deals.

Avila and his lieutenants aren't very good at due diligence. How were Meadows' vertigo issues missed? How was E. Rod's personal life drama missed? Baez was not a good signing, now that I'm more familiar with his recent past.

I was complimentary of Avila at the start of the year and was eating the cornbread. Boy, do I regret that!

I do continue to fully support A.J. Hinch. This trainwreck of a roster is not his fault. Highly doubtful any other manager could extract better results from this crew of players.

Hinch is a damn fine manager, I'm sure Houston fans would still rather have him over Dusty Baker's overrated ass. But he had to take the fall over the sign stealing scandal.

We were calling Avila's contract extension a mistake here when it happened a few years ago. Chris finally let him spend money this offseason and he spent it on the wrong guys.

Hopefully Torkelson gets himself right down here in Toledo, that would suck if he turns out to be a wasted high draft pick.

I was looking forward to seeing Miguel Cabrera take an at bat in the All-Star Game. When his turn came, the broadcast was more focused on David Ortiz's stupid interviews with players in the American League dugout than they were with Cabrera's at bat.

Contrast that with the at bat of the other special selection for the game—Albert Pujols. The broadcast was completely focused on him, with all kinds of comments about his career.

Woj needs to retire. I say that as someone who was a big fan of Stoney and Wojo back in the day. But when you think Chicken, think Chicken Shack.
