Hope it isn't career-ending. Maybe he needs to stop driving vehicles.

Golf legend Tiger Woods was seriously injured Tuesday in a one-car accident that called for a "jaws of life" rescue in Southern California, authorities said.

Woods' vehicle was going north on Hawthorne Boulevard at Blackhorse road, on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes, when it crashed and sustained "major damage," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Woods was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, the statement said.

"Mr. Woods was extracted from the wreck with the 'jaws of life,'" the sheriff added.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, the statement said. Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, told NBC News on Tuesday afternoon that Woods was in surgery for multiple leg injuries.

I hate to say it, but I am sure it will be career ending. He has had many back injuries, and just looking at the violence of the crash, if he indeed has leg injuries, they almost must be severe. I am hoping he will still be able to walk...but I cannot imagine him being able to play golf, at his level, ever again.

I was texting friends during the Genesis on Sunday and he was being interviewed and I mentioned he seemed out of it, his eyes seemed glassy and he was interrupting Jim Nantz. Let me know what you guys think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGohGhqls_g It's not like he doesn't have a history with drugs and impaired driving.

Hopefully it wasn't a suicide attempt.

Playing golf should be the last of his worries.

More likely he was backing in to the sunrise after an all nighter.

I hope that Tiger a full and speedy recovery from the injuries looks like they aren't life-threatening.

As any human, Tiger Woods is imperfect (as are most methods of transportation, for that matter - maybe there was a defect?), and one could only hope he not only recovers, but learns his lesson this time... (and maybe finds a way to educate others on how not to handle fame and fortune!)

Maybe it's society's way of putting some of these athletes on a pedestal with lottery pay for doing one thing really well; their having to live up to their own hype (and in the fish bowl) ever after; the wrong 'management' team; a misplaced center of balance / gravity / importance; a Schleprock complex...
Maybe he needs to stop driving vehicles.
Maybe he was distracted by its 14.5" display...

Whatever the reason, why some of the gifted ones are seemingly bent on killing / maiming / punishing themselves (and if at first they don't succeed, try, try again) when they appear to have the world by the gonads is enigmatic.

I try to be empathetic, but...

Only in Cali...
Cities could be liable in Tiger Woods crash
Woods crashed on Hawthorne Boulevard near the border of southern California locales Rolling Hills and Rancho Palos Verdes — two peninsular cities less than 15 miles west of Long Beach in Los Angeles County.

The cities share jurisdiction of the road, according to the county. And one former deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County told USA TODAY Sports that the cities could be liable for knowing about the treacherous stretch of road and doing little about it.
While we're at it, appears the same state eliminated blood tests for drivers involved in accidents at some point; responding officers just know...
Tiger Woods was not impaired, LA County Sheriff says
Neither Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva or responding officer Carlos Gonzalez said it appeared Woods was not impaired or under the influence at the time of the crash.

"He was not drunk," Villanueva said. "We can throw that one out.

"This is an accident, not a crime."
It will take lawyers, managers, artists, politicians & hairstylists weeks or months to determine the exact cause of the accident.

I don't at all trust the reports coming out of L.A. county.

Why haven't we heard the cause of the accident by now? Was he distracted? Health issue? Vehicle mechanical failure? Punctured tire?

It was reported yesterday (Friday) that Woods had no recollection of the accident.

Because the answers to those questions are pertinent strictly to Woods, his insurance providers and the local police. Not to the general public....as much as we’d like to know.

It likely matters a great deal that Woods was driving a courtesy car and not a personal vehicle. You can make all sorts of arguments that Woods is not at fault due to unfamiliar car, unfamiliar road, etc., all of which would absolve him.

I’ve also read elsewhere that moving him from Harbor-UCLA to Cedars Sinai was largely due to CS’s reputation for guarding the privacy of celebrity patients.

I found Phil Mushnick’s take in the New York Post about this incident rather refreshing.
