There is a lot of smoke regarding Don Canham, but I don't know that this Thomas Easthope guy is credible. First he said he "marched across campus" and fired Anderson, but then he walked the claim back. His story now is full of innuendo, and the Easthope name is not exactly one that exudes credibility: https://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/20 ... _smok.html

Men with men in locker rooms. Snapping towels, bullying those less athletic than they are. What could go wrong? Same people grow up and become coaches and athletic directors. What could go wrong? We've looked the other way too long. We should revolt against "ATHLETIC PRIVILEGE". Lost all respect for Bo when he did a book signing at a bookstore and we stood in line to get a book signed for a gift for a friend. Wouldn't even look at us. Just blew us off.

Is it possible that Bo was having a bad day? Hell, I don't blame him if you acted the way you do around here.

I agree with Matt regarding Easthope's credibility. It is very possible Canham acted with reckless disregard here, but Easthope's recollection of facts seems to have evolved, let's say.

Although the involvement, knowledge, and decisions of certain individuals is uncertain, there is little question in my mind that one or more relatively high ranking officials in the university were aware of the allegations and refused to take proper action.

A very big, unknown piece of the puzzle is this - what was the extent of institutional awareness of Anderson's activities in the 90's & early 00's among university officials, including but not limited to the athletic department?

ATHLETIC PRIVILEGE is what has allowed these things to go on all over the place for all these years. All the coddling of the athletes and letting them get away with all kinds of crimes, and covering things like this up, probably because the student athletes were afraid for their scholarships and administrators were worried about donor contributions if all this got out. The athletes that try to inform are probably told to "go about your business", and don't rock the boat, if not beaten up. Remember this is locker room justice. Snitches get stitches.
