So if Minnesota loses another game every team in the division will be under .500.

It really is. I picked Cleveland to win the AL Central back in March.

Im not big on Minnesota or Chicago ever, plus Minnesota hasn't won a playoff game since 2004.

Tigers won, currently 31-40 sitting four games back in third place.

Boston 9, Minnesota 3. Currently 36-37.

Tigers get 2 hits and 0 runs against the Royals. Pathetic.

5.5 games out after losing two of three to the Twins this weekend at home. Opportunity squandered.

Nobody in the Comedy Central is truly out of it except for the woeful Royals but I don't see it happening for the Tigers. Just not enough hitting.

They FINALLY decided Maton wasn't getting it done. Down to Toledo he goes. That late inning throwing error Sunday was the final straw for me.

I'm not giving up yet, only because of the division. Manning, E Rod, Skubal, and maybe Jobe could be pitching soon. If Greene comes back solid and a few others start hitting, they could at least make the summer interesting.

Tigers gave up 5 runs in the 8th, lost 8-3. Matt Manning pitched well - no name bullpen arms lost the game.

Also saw that Terry Francona missed the game in Kansas City. Cleveland scored two in the 9th to beat the Royals.

Minnesota 40-41
Cleveland 38-40
Detroit 34-44

At the halfway point (81 games).

My humble hopes for this year:
  • Some sign that Scott Harris's new plans are working. At least to provide a good foundation for next year, when Cabrera's contract is finally off the books, and Mize and Skubal return.
The Tigers are on pace to win 70 games, a four game improvement from last year. Not great, but better than nothing. I've taken my share of shots at Harris, but I know that the real test will come next year, after the organization has gone through one season under his guidance.

The Tigers are in a strange position this year, being able to contend in a poor division. Hopefully that has helped their morale and motivation, but they've still got a ways to go.

  • Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson establish themselves as solid major leaguers, to justify their selection as first round picks.
Greene was on pace to have a very good season before his injury. That's two significant injuries in two seasons. Another reason to build up the depth in the farm system.

Torkelson is on pace to hit 22 home runs and knock in 80 runs in his first full season, which is reasonable.

  • Jake Rogers establishes himself as a solid major leaguer, to show some kind of return on the Verlander trade.
Rogers has established himself as a solid platoon player, and his power has been a pleasant surprise. But he doesn't look like a full time solution.

  • Miguel Cabrera transitions into coaching by mid-season. I'm glad the Tigers made him prepare for this season and show up, but it's obvious that he is hindering the progress of promising young players.
They've been resting Cabrera enough to probably have him available for the full season. Everybody has to go through the motions of his final season, but I think it will be a great relief for everybody when this season is over, and the Tigers can move on without him, with a new identity.

Tork might be starting to figure this game out. He seems much more comfortable at the plate the past month.

NOT 1 BUT 2 grand slams for the Tigers (they beat the Rockies 14 - 9).
