Interracial Couples in TV Ads
It's heartening to see the emerging preponderance of interracial couples in TV ads these days, not to mention the occasional gay and/or lesbian couple. The medium has come a long way since we saw Capt. Kirk kiss Uhura on the lips. ( )

Re: Interracial Couples in TV Ads
It's been happening for a few years now, and it will continue to increase in the coming years.
Re: Interracial Couples in TV Ads
It's one thing to intentionally underrepresent a faction, and it's another to intentionally overrepresent.
Neither is good.
Neither is good.
Re: Interracial Couples in TV Ads
Regardless of race, most of the couples are middle class. They ignore the working class. It's like our demographic doesn't exist.

Don't you have TV lawyer ads in Canada? They practically own the local airwaves here! The testimonials, whether or not intentional, all seem to be coming from working class individuals. How do I know? I don't.

Re: Interracial Couples in TV Ads
I have no problem with inter-racial couples. One of my girlfriends (Philippino) is married to a white guy. One of my white buddies is married to a black girl.
Re: Interracial Couples in TV Ads
I think they are forced and distract from the message. I'd guess that a black person would probably rather see an all-black couple or an all-black family than a mixed race couple.

Myself, I don't notice it.
I remember the infamous Cheerios commercial. I'd probably seen it 3 or 4 times before reading (maybe here) that there was a Twitter controversy about it. Then I paid closer attention and finally noticed.

The worst part is he has a moving definition of "working class" so he gets to decide who is in and who is not.

Re: Interracial Couples in TV Ads
Speaking of intentionally overrepresenting a faction, in home security TV commercials, apparently only white people rob houses:
Also, if you ever seen a Michican State Police PSA telling people all the consequences of driving drunk, you'll notice that the person playing the drunk person is ALWAYS white.

and always a male, even though it takes only 1 -2 drinks for 130# female to be "over the limit" - it doesn't play well on tv to show a cop speaking meanly to a female
Re: Interracial Couples in TV Ads
On Highway Patrol in the 50s, there were plenty of bad gals, and Broderick Crawford spoke very meanly to them, but you'd never see a female criminal shot. Even then, they knew there was a line you couldn't cross.billmich88888 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 1:20 pmand always a male, even though it takes only 1 -2 drinks for 130# female to be "over the limit" - it doesn't play well on tv to show a cop speaking meanly to a female

It seems that women never get busted for drunk driving.
