Filling the Void

Post by SolarMax » Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:10 am

The saturation spot buys from the soon-to-be-legal online betting apps have filled the void left by the welcome departure of political ads from the local TV outlets, both broadcast and cable.
I cringe upon seeing and hearing the clone spokesblondes Jessie Cauffield (Draft Kings) and Courtney Perna (BetRivers.com) who seem to appear in almost every other local spot break.
Another one, Fanduel, hooked up with Motor City Casino, just voiceover, is also in that rotation.

A great number of new "law firms" have also popped up, nipping at the heels of the longtime regulars, and more car dealers and furniture stores than I remember from even a short time back.
Even so, these are a degree better than the mostly awful PAC ads that ran in the primary and general election seasons.

It seems that the Michigan Lottery has cut down on their ads. There are more ads from companies that want to take your money, than there are from the State who wants to take your money.

Even more have appeared since your original post, Max. Hey Soos, the gambling/betting ads are almost worse than the political (or B-B-B-B-Bulbhead, or Bell + Howell ads, which have also magically returned to fill the septic tank), with talking heads that sound like cats in heat.

Couple of questions:
  • Do these bookies need ties to a physical gamblin' house in our great state in order to advertise & do business here?
  • Did residents of MI approve of this widening of gambling / addition of sports-betting by vote?

So on line gambling is now legal. I heard where one company lost big time.

Yep, and has been for some time. It's called The Stock Market.

Man, it's gotten even worse. There are at least a dozen of 'em. The Michigan Problem Gambling Hotline must be on fire.

How about an ad for the Michigan Gambling Help Line? Then as part of the ad, to drum up business, plug the Michigan Lottery?

Does it appear that many of these spots get run truly as filler, only when there are gaps in traffic?
