Sad to see another music legend gone. If you grew up in the 90's and 2000's, Smash Mouth was everywhere, movies, TV shows, and commercials. I know Harwell wasn't doing great after that erratic concert 2 years ago. May he R.I.P.

Not long after the announcement of his death came out yesterday, I heard WIXX spin at least two of Smash Mouth's songs in a row. Many other stations likely wouldn't have adjusted their playlists until this morning.

I like to think of myself as a musical idiot savant of sorts. I seem to recall Smash Mouth was like Sugar Ray and Goo Goo Dolls, in that they started off as a harder edged band. But then the more out-there "mainstream hit" came along and they pivoted and that's the direction they went in. Have you ever heard some of Goo Goo Dolls' early work? It's like two different bands!
