Rolling Stones 2021

Post by lidoshuffle » Mon Nov 15, 2021 5:29 pm

As I write this post, getting ready to go to downtown Detroit, Ford Field, to see the Stones. I am laughing at the same time with great nostalgia and memories of my first Stones concert, I remember the date (11-30-1981) was 19, on leave from the USAF for three days as I travelled home to Mt. Clemens from my duty station in California, hooking up with a few friends and we got to the Silverdome, waited outside till they opened the doors and we ran in, it was all general seating that show, we got 20 rows up, side stage view, and waited, thru Iggy, thru Santana (BTW they were awesome that night as well). We joked that Mick Jagger was almost 40 and OMG this might be the last time The Stones tour!! I'm 59 now, and if you told this naïve fresh faced 19 year old kid that almost 40 years to the day later, I'd be attending a Rolling Stones show in Detroit, I would have told you that "yea and Santa Claus is real" This will be my 4th Stones show...(1981, 1989 Silverdome, and 2002 at Ford Field), looking forward to tonight, and attending with one of the friends who attended with me way back in 1981...and a casino stop after the show...carry on all!!

At 78 Jagger moves better than people half his age, they sounded great, just rock 'n roll the way it's meant to be played, opened up with "Street Fighting Man", Mick even joked about eating at the downtown Coney Islands and remarked, "Your Lions tied their match last Sunday"...lol, the last three songs were outstanding, "Paint It Black", "Sympathy For The Devil" and "Jumpin Jack Flash", encores were "Gimme Shelter" (fav Stones song), and of course "Satisfaction", all in all a well spent $450 on my part...lol

Any newer material in the set list?

If you'd thought you'd be paying $450 for concert tickets 40 years on, that would also have seemed ridiculous from the 1981 point-of-view. I was also at the '81 show, and got my ticket through the mail (and still have it somewhere) for what I recall as around $10 - $12. Saw them in '89, twice around 94 for the "Voodoo Lounge" tour, and the '02 Ford Field show.
