Bob Seger "Boomtown Blues" (1982)
Bob Seger "Boomtown Blues" (1982)
Bob Seger "Boomtown Blues" (from late 1982 "The Distance") (audio only & album track). When I was hearing "Q106" WJHQ" Jackson, MI back in early 1983, Bob was singing about "You're heading out to Mackinaw City" which was NOT on the album. Did anyone heard that back then?? Here is the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWCFMVR ... eger-Topic

The lyric was from "Roll me away":
12 hours out of Mackinaw City
Stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks
And I told her what I'd decided to do
"Boomtown Blues" is about those who headed south when hard times hit the auto industry in the late 70's/early 80's and were homesick.
You can't miss that freezin' rain
You'd have to be insane
To head back north
And go through all that again
12 hours out of Mackinaw City
Stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks
And I told her what I'd decided to do

Re: Bob Seger "Boomtown Blues" (1982)
I heard "Roll Me Away" on the FM radio on 105 FM WWCK (when it was a rock station). Actually they used a sound effect on a motorcycle starting up!! The next song on 105 FM WWCK that had that sound effect was The Tubes "She's A Beauty" also in 1983!!! The motorcycle sound effect NOT on their album "Outside/Inside"!! 105 FM WWCK was very weird in 1983 because that station also used opening TV themes including "77 Sunset Strip" & the original "Star Trek"!!!

Q106 was (and is) WJXQ. I remember them around then with their studio (with WKHM) in Vandercook Lake.

OOPS, thought it was WJHQ instead of WJXQ Jackson, MI.
