I love this lady Chi Coltrane she had a great song from 1972 “Thunder And Lightning” what a great tune and great talent, anyone have anymore info on her is she still recording.

Story of Chi Coltrane (from the vaults "Rock Artifacts: Volume 1" from 1991 various artists):
Chi Coltrane was a 23 year old with long blonde hair in 1972, but if you expected to hear singing something along the lines of Michelle Phillips (or maybe Laura Nyro), you were in for a severe shock. A talented vocalist, musician, and songwriter, Coltrane could really wail, as a listen to her biggest hit, "Thunder And Lightning," can attest.
Always interested in music, Coltrane started piano at age 7 and later studied voice with Key Howard, She was born in Racine, Wisconsin on November 16, 1948, but by 1966 (at age 17) had begun singing professionally in the clubs in Chicago, about 50 miles to the south. Later she went to Los Angeles to study, including two years at the Salter School Of Music there. She then began to tour with various bands, including her own, appearing in Las Vegas, Chicago, and the Bahamas.
She wrote "Thunder And Lightning" in 1972; it entered the charts in September as a STEREO single, eventually reaching # 17 on November 18, 1972 on the Billboard Hot 100 or Top 40 Charts. The session featured Chi on vocals and piano, and included studio musicians Jim Gordon on drums, Larry Knechtel (Bread) on bass, Ben Benay on guitar, King Erison on congas, and Victor Feldman on percussion. It was mixed at Armin Steiner's Sound Labs, Inc., and CBS acquired the master as an un-EQ'd mixdown tape. For this reason, no multitrack tapes exist in the Columbia Records vaults, but the song is presented here just as it is on the mixdown tape. Although here it is 3:01 and the 45 single version of this song runs 2:56, the two versions are identical with the exception that the tape was speeded up very slightly for the single release. It is at its original speed here.
The success of "Thunder And Lightning" led to TV appearances on "Midnight Special" and with the late Johnny Carson, the late Merv Griffin, and the late Mike Douglas. Chi also appeared as a guest artist at the Brazillian Music Festival in Rio de Janeiro.
Her follow up single "Go Like Elijah," only reached # 107 in January of 1973 (Billboard's Bubbling Under The Hot 100 Single Charts), and two final singles on Columbia failed to chart at all. She had two albums on Columbia, Chi Coltrane in 1972, which contained both chart singles & went to # 148 on Billboard Top 200 Album Charts in November of 1972, and "Let It Ride" in 1973 (did NOT charted in Billboard), and a 1977 album on the TK label "Road To Tomorrow" (also did NOT chart), which included Jennifer Warnes and other well known backers.
The CD reissue of her debut self - titled first (1972) & "Let It Ride" (1973) is available on Beat Goes On at: www.bgo-records.com (British import CD) which was reissued either in 2018 or 2019!!
Also the song "Thunder And Lightning" can be found on RHINO "Super Hits Of The 70's: Have A Nice Day, Volume 9" (reissued in early 1990) (which the sound quality is better than the "Rock Artifacts: Volume 1" Columbia/Legacy CD from 1991)!!!

Bill Inglot remastered a lot of those Early Rhino Compilations. He apparently used the best source he could find, in some cases he may ave even used Mint Vinyl when no better master tapes were found. Another good example like the Chi Coltrane one was "It's A Shame" by The Spinners. The intro on some compilations was really messed up, but Bill Inglot's was perfect.
