Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty-six

They were beating 107.5 not so long ago, but have fallen off a cliff since. Being the #2 hit music station just isn't that attractive anymore.
This is a change I welcome especially if it's going to follow the same template as their sister Duke FM stations. Music City deserves a country station that doesn't play Sam Hunt and Morgan Wallen. Even WSM-AM is playing those artists now... noooooo thank you.

I have been listening for several hours and I have not heard any commercials or on air personalities other than station identification. That said, I am not sure if the online stream is the same as OTA.

Just starting to hear ads this morning. But I've heard no local jocks or weather or news.

I hate the brand name they chose. I'm skeptical this station will earn anything more than a couple share points. 95.5 is a strong station. Perhaps they have research suggesting 95.5 isn't optimally positioned from an artist selection standpoint.

MW, I think the demographic for 80s-90's country is largely underserved in most markets. Being that this is a Music City station, maybe it will do well there.

I compared 95.5 to 98.3 in Monroe/Toledo, and 95.5 is TONS better. 95.5 is much more conservative with currents/recurrents (maximum 5 spins per week; 98.3 has around 20). In fact, even WSM-AM is playing current/recurrent titles more often these days (and it also looks 1991 is as far back as they go with gold these days).
95.5 is more the way I think a "Nash Icon" station ought to sound.

Good info; thanks Chris.

Based on your analysis, I think there is little room for a station like 106.7 to succeed.

My guess is Midwest adopted the format because (i) cannibalization of MWC's highly successful AC and Adult Hits stations will be negligible and (ii) they felt the need to have a country station in the home of country music.

Good luck to them in attempting to pry away ad dollars from Cumulus (which has two country FMs on blowtorch signals) and iHM (who owns the WSIX, the flagship for the Bobby Bones show).

If I were calling the shots, I probably would've either kept a CHR-like format in place but would've modified the music to include more 90s and 00s party hits or I would've gone classic rock. Some in the market believe 105.9 The Rock is vulnerable, and with 106.7 being next door to 105.9 on the dial, a competing format would've been easy to find for 105.9's listeners. Midwest already owns an extremely successful classic rock station in Knoxville, too..

I like this move as I enjoy listening to Duke FM when I'm in Lansing. I also see that they were able to get Randy Travis to launch the new format.
