How long has "shit" been allowed to be spoken on tv?
How long has "shit" been allowed to be spoken on tv?
Hear it all the time now and it used to be one of the words that was taboo. Wonder why the ban was lifted?

The words, in the order Carlin listed them, are: "shit", "piss", "fuck", "cunt", "cocksucker", "motherfucker", and "tits".

Audiophile is happy to note the word he calls President Obama was not on the list.
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

Depends if it was on a 'over the air' channel OR cable.

Didn't Howard Stern perform the act once on TV?
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.
Re: How long has "shit" been allowed to be spoken on tv?
I have heard shit and others on USA and other cable channel original shows for several years now.

I alway thought the key was whether you could watch the show with an antenna. I don't think you can watch USA from an antenna.
I no longer directly engage trolls

I don't remember the exact rule but I don't think that is it. NYPD Blue on network TV broke several barriers including partial nudity and language.

I've noticed the last couple years it's been allowed on certain cable channels. Still censoring F bombs for the most part.

I heard it on a Canadian TV station more than 40 years ago, when I picked up the station during atmospherics.

I think that you can say "PISS" to people!! (but NOT the other 6 words)

It's my understanding that language is only an issue if reported to the FCC with evidence. They make a ruling. I recall the enforcement is not black and white. There are also certain times of the day where standards change, 10p seems to be a time when this happens. I recall seeing some lovely tittes on Benny Hill on PBS at 11:30pm.
Howard Stern did untasteful things and was fined only after someone who had recorded his program filed an FCC complaint. I still believe that was staged.
Then there was this bipolar headcase...

Between 1999 and 2004, David Edward Smith's Citizens for Community Values filed 66 indecency complaints with the FCC relating to (Madcow)Eric Muller's program, leading to 6 citations and $42,000 in fines. In 2004 Muller sued Smith for harassment and business interference, but later dropped the lawsuit.[11][12] Emmis Communications entered into a 2004 consent decree with the FCC, agreeing to make a $300,000 "voluntary payment" to resolve the complaints; in 2006 (after Muller had ended his WKQX show), the FCC rejected Smith's challenge to this settlement.[13]
