Golf Course Failure

Post by Turkeytop » Wed Jun 22, 2022 10:40 pm

A few years ago, someone decided to create a golf course in our working class end of the city. It was doomed from the start.
Working class people don't play golf and the snip snops from the other end of the city don't even want to be seen here, much less drive all the way out here.

Last year, somebody torched the club house an put the place out of its misery.

Now, it appears to be undergoing a rebirth as a trailer park. Weeds have reclaimed what used to be the greens.

Clearly, a 48 lane bowling alley would have better choice.

I know plenty of blue collar people who golf. Most of metro Detroit’s near suburbs are still quite geared that way. I am lower middle class or upper lower class. I got my golf clubs from a buy nothing group. If I pay $10 for a bucket of balls, I can’t play? What?

They/them, non-binary and proud.

The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.

TT has his own secret definition of working class with a moving goal post. Best not to engage.

Well Turkey, I don't know what you consider middle class or working class or trailer class.
I know there used to be quite a few union golf leagues at one of your fellow steel mills, Great Lakes in Ecorse Michigan.
So I'm not sure where dues paying steelworkers fall in your caste of classes.

Maybe you would like the Polish Canadian Soccer Club on Hamilton.
You might get a kick out of it.

Wrong. There are no goal posts to move. We're the only class without goal posts. We don't have any arbitrary income thresholds for admission or expulsion.

One user here last week declared that the US no longer has a middle class.

That being the case, Bernie has his work cut out for him when he gets to be President, He wants all the working class to undergo some kind of conversion therapy to become middle class.

Plenty of "working class" people golf. In my case, I only go on cheap night and use a pull-cart as opposed to a motorized ones. It is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the great outdoors for a few hours.

Mark Twain once described golf as "A good walk spoiled."

I'm told that the courses in this hopelessly middle class city don't even permit one to walk. They make them rent a cart.

Flint is often called a "Working Class City", when it's not called something much worse. In the 1960s, they had a wonderful set of municipal Golf Courses throughout the city. Flint high schools competed and won state championships against such toney high school districts as those in Grosse Pointe and Bloomfield Hills. Flint schools produced a bunch of amateur and course pro golfers, many interviewed and frequently discussed by J.P. McCarthy on WJR back in the day. Some of the Flint courses have now been abandoned and left to be nature preserves. But then again, there was a beautiful private course near Harbor Springs that met a similar fate recently.
