New Vacuum Cleaner

After nearly 30 years, my wife's Sears Kenmore vacuum finally gave up. Can't get parts for it anymore.

Yesterday we went out shopping for a new one. Got one, a brand I've never heard of. Miele. Seems like a really good one. It's unbelievably quiet. The only sound is the suction. Can't hear the works at all.

She's happy again.

German brand.

I ran into one of their dishwashers a friend asked to troubleshoot. The display code said it was bad relay, I concurred.

We've had Miele products for years. Reliable and functional.

They make a great coffee grinder too.

I got it from Canadian Tire, a working class store.

The Sears was a really good machine. I knew it would have big shoes to fill and I didn't want to disappoint her.

Yep, a top shelf brand.

I'd go so far as to say "upper-middle" class.

Because of a vacuum cleaner?

If you ever met me, you's see how absurd that assertion is.

I don't think so.

A "working class" man would drink Budweiser or some swill 24/7 and be content. You have an affinity and the means for quality beer.

Two homes, in 2 different countries. Both with indoor plumbing.

Clearly middle-class, and probably on the higher end of the spectrum.

Typical liberal elitism, believing that working class people shouldn't be permitted to enjoy life's finer things such as indoor plumbing. That we're drunkards, drinking beer 24/7

Never said such a thing. "Permitted" was not a word used or intended. You choose and have the taste to drink a better quality beer. Also, you have the means in these days of rampant inflation. Screams middle class.

Gee, I don't know. Guy has really high end appliances. Two homes in two different countries and doesn't work. Sounds bourgeoisie to me.

It's just a matter of one's priorities. I'd rather have indoor plumbing than I would an $800 cell phone. I'd rather enjoy a nice beer once in a while than to pay extra for clothes that have the label on the outside.

I'd rather drink my beer at the Union hall than in some trendy club

I'm content to spend my winters living as trailer trash because a beachfront condo is really beyond my means

One, I don't think a double wide in a neat and tidy court counts as "trailer trash."

Two, I'd rather have indoor plumbing than ANY cell phone. Three, I don't own any clothes with the label on the outside except for my collection of Stetson's. I also eschew trendy clubs for neighborhood establishments or with a few friends gathered around my fire pit. And, I don't even own a second home. Guess I'm working class too.

Must be one of them there new fangled working class conservatives that voted for Reagan and Trump.

BTW, I still have a Kirby I purchased second hand 25 years ago. Works great.

My comments weren't directed at you, Bryce, but at our friend who stereotypes the working class as being twenty-four hour beer swilling drunkards without indoor plumbing.

Just how does beer swilling and no indoor plumbing work in the winter time? And you forgot about the old car up on blocks in the front yard.
