Bruce Springsteen was with fans, failed sobriety tests when charged with DWI, sources say


Bruce Springsteen was charged with a DWI on Sandy Hook after having a shot of tequila with fans and failing two field sobriety tests, according to sources with knowledge of his account of the incident and a federal summons made public on Thursday.

The music superstar was riding on his bike, which the summons described as a red and silver Triumph motorcycle, on Nov. 14, when he pulled over to take pictures with fans who offered him a shot, sources said.

The Boss was cited for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area, according to the National Park Service, who described Springsteen as “cooperative throughout the process.”

Springsteen initially refused a breath test when he was pulled over, according to a copy of the federal summons.

A ranger, identified as R.L. Hayes, saw Springsteen take a shot of Patron tequila and then get on his motorcycle and start the engine, according to a copy of the federal summons made public Tuesday.

The ranger pulled over the Jersey rock icon near the Sandy Hook Lighthouse at 4:12 p.m. and informed him that alcohol was banned in the park, according to the complaint.

"Springsteen smelt strongly of alcohol coming off his person and had glassy eyes," Hayes wrote.

The rocker claimed to have had two shots of tequila in the last 20 minutes, according to the summons.

"The Patron bottle that the shot was poured out of was completely empty (750ml)," the ranger said. "I asked Springsteen if he was leaving, and he confirmed that he was going to drive out of the park."

He failed field sobriety tests. I won't waste any energy defending the a**hole, but there may have been some other substance besides alcohol involved here. He's a biker.

The incident transpired on Nov 10, one week after Joe Biden was elected. But, nonetheless, Biden still hired him to perform at his inauguration.

The music isn’t so bad though.

Incidentally 0.02 is the legal limit for a commercial driver. However I was just reading a day or so ago that if an officer suspects you are impaired and you are below 0.08 you can still be arrested for DWI if you aren’t well enough to drive. Maybe Bruce can’t hold his liquor...
