MARY ESTHER — A Panera employee was charged Friday with threatening his place of employment with a firearm.

Micah Emmory Lopez, 18, said Thursday he was going to “shoot up” Panera and told a coworker to stay home on Friday, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Panera went into lockdown on Friday.

Lopez called in sick from work. He was located at his residence in Florosa. During a post-Miranda interview, he denied intending to cause violence.

According to OSCO, Lopez said the comments were made as a joke.

He is charged with making a threat to use a firearm, which is a second-degree felony.
