Florida man arrested for lighting firecrackers under sleeping child's bed


CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WPMI) — A Crestview man was arrested after what he told the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office was a "prank gone wrong."

OCSO says 44-year old Matthew Morrison lit firecrackers and threw them under a sleeping child’s bed.

The 9-year-old victim told deputies it scared her to the point she was crying and shaking.

Morrison is now charged with burglary, child cruelty without great harm, and possession of a controlled substance.

OCSO deputies responded to the home on Godfrey Street Saturday morning.

The homeowner told them Morrison lives in a tent outside and went into the house without permission.

He told OCSO that Morrison threw a string of lit firecrackers under the victim's bed. The homeowner then chased Morrison out of the home with a stick, according to OCSO.

The young girl told deputies she woke up to the sound of fireworks exploding in her room, causing her to be frightened, cry and shake.

When OCSO deputies detained Morrison they found about two grams of methamphetamine in his pants pocket.
