Album Rock WXYG AM 540
Re: Album Rock WXYG AM 540
"The Goat?" Shouldn't that be the yokel country station? Horrible brand for a rock station... any type.
BTW, it's SAUK Rapids, a "suburb" of St Cloud. Been there many times. Also have a friend moving there in 2 weeks.

I'm willing to bet that they do. If Toledo has a country station (K100) that does livestock reports in the morning, I'm willing to bet St Cloud does too.
Re: Album Rock WXYG AM 540
It kinda is surprising that a "W" set of call letters are west of the Mississippi. Usually, it's a "K."
Re: Album Rock WXYG AM 540
The rule is not as strict in Minnesota.
Re: Album Rock WXYG AM 540
Not really. St Paul has "W" call letters, while Minneapolis has ""K" call letters. St Cloud and Sauk Rapids are both west of the twin cities. That's what made this situation of call letters so unusual. However, what I did not realize, the Mississippi runs thru St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids is on the east side of it. So, kinda tricky.

"The Goat" may not be that bad a name because texting has given the word a new meaning: "Greatest Of All Time".
I heard someone at an NRC or WTFDA convention say that the FCC allows stations in Minnesota and Louisiana to use "K" or "W" call signs anywhere in those states. Don't know if that's true.
I do know that many broadcast towers are being used to transmitt "W" and "K" stations from the same tower - even the same antenna!

Yes, it's about city of license, not actual location. Like a station in Buchanan, MI can transmit from a tower there, but still say South Bend. However, it's the call letters in this case. Makes sense to me.

Is that a syndicated or automated format?

WOW! What a rare bird! Good for them.
