WJZZ

Does anyone out there have any memories of listening to WJZZ? I didn't listen to it that often even though I had an interest in jazz when I was a teen, (though a lot of it was over my head at the time. Maybe that's why liked it, but I digress.) However WDET filled that niche, (Ed Love's voice is now in my head.)

There are a TON of recordings off-air of 106 WJZZ available on YouTube. Not just airchecks, but long-form recordings.

The station had an upscale sound, from what I can gather. Toward the end, it seemed to play a lot of smooth jazz and sounded quite similar to V98.7.

Every year at the Detroit Jazz Festival there are large numbers of people wearing WJZZ logo tee shirts. "New" issues of the shirts have been available for some time, plus there are those of us who still have our originals. The logo was designed by Robert Dempster, who still does design and promotional work.

One of the greatest radio stations from Detroit’s past and Rosetta Hines what a radio legend definitely miss “WJZZ Jazz 106”. It was pure Detroit until 1996 when the station became “The Beat 105.9”.
