Notice to all Buzzboard readers & posters: A requested server migration took place Saturday evening. Unfortunately, I did not re-point my DNS records to the new server until roughly 7:45p ET on Monday, November 12. As a result, any posts and new user registrations occurring between the nighttime hours of 11/10 and approximately 7:45p ET on Monday, 11/12 have been lost.

This was unavoidable, and the longer I waited to re-point to the new server, the greater the number of posts that would've been lost.

Please feel free to resubmit any threads / posts you created. They will NOT be lost this time! Many thanks for your patience these past couple of weeks while I've worked to migrate the Buzzboard to a more secure, more robust platform.

Buckeye Toledo rarely showed NBC4 programming, but ran WSPD-TV NBC programming, once in a while Buckeye would remember to flip the switch so you could see the Detroit news on 4. This was before 13 switched to ABC as WTVG. For some reason they almost never pre-empted WXYZ, which was cool so I could watch Wild Bill Bonds.
I recall a time when Buckeye never messed with WDIV at all, though this goes back before 1988 at least.

Did WXYZ pre-empt ABC programming regularly in the late 80s/early 90s?
I remember about one or two short-lived shows never being cleared by WXYZ during this time. WDIV was a bit more preemption-happy, which probably explained why United used to carry WTVG in Woodhaven and Gibraltar in the 1980's. They never carried WUPW and I can't remember if they had WTOL at all, as I believe WJBK and WTOL signed some sort of agreement in the mid-80's wherein they could share cable systems based in Monroe and Lenawee Counties but otherwise stayed in their own markets.

In the 70's, when Buckeye has two cables and only 13 channels A/B, they did carry Storer's WJBK in their CBS days with cutie then Robbie Timmons. When WTOL had Tiger Baseball on, you had WJBK-CBS as a backup. What really torqued me off was that for the first 5 seasons of Saturday Night Live, WSPD/WTVG 13 did NOT carry the NBC show at 11:30pm at all, and the ONLY way to see anything were SNL specials on at 10pm. I think it was something to do with their stupid old 'Code of Conduct' slide (SNL too risqué?') that they would show prior to sign-off (yes they did go off the air and let the tubes cool down). I don't recall being able to see SNL on WDIV either (or what were there previous call letters on 4 - WWJ?? ) Not until 1981 could you watch SNL in Toledo. Also, Buckeye didn't use channels 11 or 13 in 1974, as the bleedover from the RF 11&13 would infiltrate the channel. Eventually I think that they used those two channels for their red and blue DOS-quality 'crawls' / advertising / weather, with background music playing.

A recent videotape find got me some TNT from late 1997. All local ads were TC-area businesses (except one), and there were some ads for a cable system known as Cable Michigan. I couldn't find some info on this company, so does anyone have a clue as to what it was like?

Back in 2001, Cable Michigan also served West Branch and Ogemaw County. Of course Charter Spectrum has that system now. I don't remember their lineup from back then though.

AFAIK, the Cable Michigan Traverse City lineup was VERY similar to Charter's current NW Michigan lineup (below about 60 excluding the 40s range [which was all movie channels])

I'll try to re-post Cheboygan from early-mid 90s. At the time was TCI. I usually mix something up or forget something each time I do this from memory. I was just a young kid then.

2-WGKI
3-HBO
4-PREVUE
5-CHBX
6-PBS
7-WTOM
8-WGTQ
9-CJIC
10-WWUP
11-LOCAL ACCESS
12-LOCAL ACCESS
13-WGN
14-Encore
15-FX
16-QVC
17-Cinemax
18-Disney
19-USA
21-CSPAN
22-Nickelodeon
23-Weather Channel
24-A&E
25-CNN ?
28-INTRO (perhaps Sneak Prevue?), very poor quality, always went in/out.
29-MTV
30-Family Channel (CBN/Fox/ABC)
31-Odyssey (or whatever it was called back then...I watched "The Joy of Music" on that channel)
33-TLC
34-Discovery
35-TBS
36-TNT

If you switched the back of the TV to IRC or HRC:
98-Porn (my guess is Playboy)
99-Porn (maybe another Playboy channel)

TCI was so messed up, at least in Cheboygan. 15 miles north to Mackinaw City, and while still a small lineup, at least it was straight through, no blocks/skips in numbers. I seem to recall a guide of some sort that I think went up to 25 or something.

After TCI folded, and Bresnan had the system, INTRO was replaced with Cartoon Network, VH1 was added (I think 20?) Fox News and a few others. After 36, it jumped to 44 (Odyssey/Hallmark) and 45 (Fitness CHannel)

After Charter took it over, they didn't really do squat with the Cheboygan lineup until around 2002-ish, when they tied to the TC headend.
