What's the story about the h-uge 8 tower array in Hamilton? What station is this, and what's the pattern look like.

One of the biggest arrays in North America. Far towers are about a half mile apart.

First I heard of CHML 900 was when the buses came to town for the CANUSA Games circa 1958. The buses had the station insignia on them. I think they were the major Canadian sponsor.

Easy catch in New York City from dusk to dawn. Similar to what WMVP 1000 from Chicago is where I live. When CHML went 50,000 watts many years ago, WFRO in Ohio was still on the air. That is why they are limited to the Southwest. There was another 900 am up North (Sudbury) which is why you have another limitation in that direction.

That 900 in Sudbury moved to 550, then to FM. WFRO 900 is gone. WSNQ 900 is gone. 900 in Sudbury is still in the Region II Database. A Canadian station wouldn't have to protect the Sudbury allotment. WFDF 910 has a larger footprint with 50 kW, and any change in CHML 900 would require not overlapping 0.5 mV/m contours of each station over sovereign land areas in each country under Agreement.

CHML also has to protect the Mexican border for XEW 900, which is 250000 watts, Class A. According to the founder of worldradiohistory.com, most stations like this actually operate with a lot less power than under Region II listed facility records. But you would still have to protect it in Mexico. It would probably be on the order of CKLW 800 protecting XEROK 800 to the Mexican border, or the equivalent of the 5000 watt nondirectional CKLW 800 facility under NARBA authorized in 1941.

There are a few more big arrays I see when driving East into Niagara Falls, two are between Hamilton and St Catharins. I see a few big Toronto stations are transmitting from the South side of the lake !

CHML was also on the South Side of the "Horseshoe" when it was 5000 watts from two towers. WTOR 770, which targets Toronto, is also on the South Side of Lake Ontario, but in the US.

640 CFIQ transmits from Beamsville. Both 590 The Fan (CJCL) and 680 NewsRadio Toronto (CFTR) are near Grimsby with 590 being southeast of where 680 is located.

During the daytime 900 CHML will continue to protect three U.S. radio stations, including 910 WFDF. They could apply to lose the nulls towards Lindsay/Paterborough, and the one towards Sudbury.
