So, we now know what the length of time for manditory simulcasting of x.1 ATSC 1.0 streams will be: sometime in 2023, according to https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/fcc-b ... ext-gen-tv

After that, a station can fully convert to ATSC 3.0 (which means a second digital conversion with either new sets or converter boxes being required), and the likely loss of digital subnetworks on x.2's and x.3's...

For example, WPNT 22 The Point (My Network TV) in Pittsburgh just switched to ATSC 3.0. Its sister station WPGH (Fox 53) is temporarily carrying 22.1 alongside 53.1 and its own subchannels, though 22.1's subchannels Stadium (22.2), Comet (22.3) and TBD (22.4) are currently MIA, since WPNT is carrying the ATSC 3.0 feeds for itself, WPGH, and ABC station WTAE 4....

I have a feeling WXYZ Channel 7 is going to be the first to make the switch in Detroit, since they also own WMYD TV 20...
