September Tropo

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Almost every night during the first half of this month has brought in tropo or enhancement of some kind. What have been some of your more interesting catches? Here's a summary of some of what I've had in in Whitmore Lake:

88.7 - WIAA Interlochen completely knocking out CIMX last night (12th) with perfect RDS

And it's continued for the past few nights. I don't remember the last time we had night after night of enhanced FM conditions like we've had over the past week and a half. It more than makes up for most of the summer being relatively quiet for me DX-wise.

Last night:
88.1 WVPE Elkhart
89.1 WBOI Fort Wayne crystal clear in WEMU null
US93.3 Fort Wayne
93.5 WRQN cutting into usually rock solid WHMI
95.9 WLKM Three Rivers
96.3 WXKE Fort Wayne cutting into WDVD
96.5 W243DP Bryan OH (Q96.5/translator of 1520 WQCT) - new catch!
96.7 WBVI Fostoria/Findlay OH - first time hearing since they flipped to Classic Hits
99.3 WBET Sturgis
Star 106.9 Marion IN with perfect RDS

Right now, 89.5 WCMU-FM, 90.5 WKAR-FM, 93.7 WBCT, 94.1 WWDK, 97.5 WJIM-FM, 100 7 WITL-FM, and 103.7 WCKY-FM are blasting into my area (near Royal Oak / Birmingham border).

I can decode HD on 90.5 and it's popping in and out on 100.7.

Duke FM sounds great on the car radio.
DTE Energy paid $752 million in dividends to its shareholders last fiscal year. Remember that the next time they ask the MPSC to approve rate hikes.
