WDIV off the air?

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

WDIV off the air?

Post by Art Van Damme » Tue May 21, 2024 6:18 pm

Was watching the news tonight and just before 6pm, poof, the signal is gone.

I can receive all the other tv stations just fine.

I have an antenna on my roof about 15’ in the air.

Wonder if this is just me or if others have noticed?

7:41pm it’s back on.

That was strange.

Curious if it was just the off-air signals or were Comcast signals affected too? I believe Comcast gets their feed directly on a fiber connection.

Facebook posts I've seen tonight do indeed indicate that the outage was spread across (seemingly) all providers as well. Read reports specifically that DirecTV and Comcast were affected.

I was watching WDIV off-air when the screen went dark. Switched over to xfinity and they were there, since they feed comcast via fiber, not OTA, so not comcast's fault, this time.

I reached out and emailed WDIV help desk. Received a prompt response. There was a power glitch at the transmitter site. They were aware of the issue.

Stormy WX in S.E. MI !
A few times I heard some AM signals go off and come back on, maybe lightning hit on the tower could cause transmitter to shut down and reset again, or AC power fail and come back before a generator could start up.
