No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM
No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM
Has any regular listeners of the 70's channel on SXM noticed that the Jingles ID seem to be gone recently.??
Without the jingles the station has a bland sound and it sucks imo. It used to be a fun station taking you back to the hey day of top 40 radio. Now not so much.

Jingles were a big part of radio in the 60s and 70s for sure, and should be returned, but we're assuming that 70's on 7 has a PD that is over 50 years old and actually listened to AM radio in the 1970's and gives a crap about radio?
Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM
Did someone forget to pay the jingle bill? Lol
IMO, it sounds sleepy and cheap without them. What are they thinking? Plus Magic Matt sounds like he is doing his drops from a cell phone.

The adage applies here of 'if it aint broken , dont fix it" . I always was under the impression that the jocks like Magic Matt and JJ Walker were voice tracked.....and thats not a prob. but without the jingles , they now have taken away the attitude of 70's radio stations on AM radio. Maybe the biggest station in the 70's was WLS89 and it was memorable not only for the jocks but the WLS jingles.
Lets hope subscribers voice theyre opinion on SXM's social media.

I was listening to 80's on 8 last night and they still have jingles.
Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM
I listened further, and fully realized how bad it sounds now. I guess the guy doing the liners must have done it very cheaply. Without the fun elements, I would rather listen to a 70s station on Pandora.
Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM
Wow...IMO the station continues to be a train wreck. No jingles, very little production, and I feel that I’m hearing the same 200 songs over and over.
Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM
Probably a license rights or copyright issue. They licensed the radio station, but not the jingles were were made by someone else.

Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM
The license on the jingle package probably expired and SXM didn't want to pay the expense of renewing it. Seems they could have taken competing bids from other production houses for a new package, and perhaps they are. Normally you would want to have a deal in-place and new jingles ready to go when the current contract expires. The channel sounds incredibly dry without them.
The jingle package XM used for 80's on 8 before the Sirius merger was very impressive. I believe the jocks were also live at the time, and the momentum of the channel was great! That ended when Sirius took over and opted for the voiced-tracked old MTV VJ's. Sounded awful after that, like somebody took a pin to the balloon.
Shortwave is the ORIGINAL satellite radio.

I had the original XM starting in 2003. They were live and took requests, as I had a few played. Variety and deep cuts were outstanding. I further rented a car when Sirius and XM were separate. Listened to Sirius’ 80’s channel with the MTV DJ’s and thought it sucked.Calvert DeForest wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 8:43 amThe license on the jingle package probably expired and SXM didn't want to pay the expense of renewing it.
