Virtual sports broadcast 'studio truck' does football

How Football is returning to TV screens in Europe with everyone in lockdown.

The BT Sport network in Europe will be broadcasting football with the production crew member doing their respective thing in their homes. The director in his home, Chyron in their home, replay, audio, announcers, the whole shebang live.

The gear was shipped to their home locations and will be operated there linked by 4G wireless or home broadband.

Seems bonkers to me that this actually might work, but given a fast enough interconnects there's no reason it shouldn't. It's worth noting on the map that geographically each production component are for the most part near each other. It's not like what might happen here in the states where the audio guy is outside Raleigh NC, font in Dallas, replay in LA, the switcher in Chicago, etc. The latency would just be too much to overcome.

The other thing wonder about this is that we're at a point where the hardware has been reduced in size and power consumption that it can be operated without special HVAC and electrical service.

All in all a pretty cool idea with the exception of not being about to go out and have a beer after the show with your crew.
