National Radio Day, August 20. Who Knew?

Post by SolarMax » Tue Aug 20, 2019 12:11 am

Seems like just yesterday we were observing National Radio Day 2018, but, here we are again, gathering together, or hiding in solitary, for National Radio Day, 2019!
Turn on a radio, if you can find one, and listen to it, at least for a little while.
It's like magic, to hear music and talking, without an assist from a phone, telecom or cable cartel.
Praise Fessenden!
"Radio: The Original Wireless."

National Radio Day

I put together an old-school type music radio program and had someone broadcast it on shortwave. I'm still getting reports and sending QSLs out. Covered half the US and Canada and even got reception reports from France, Netherlands and Norway! My contribution to the craft.

Actually, I didn't pay a penny. Some shortwave stations sell an hour for $50 or less. WBCQ was doing an hour for $25 I think, just recently.

And I just got a report from a listener in Japan this morning!

Nice. So, how do you do it? Did you have to go to their studio to do the program?

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

I produced the program in my home studio and edited it in Audition. Then, I sent the finished file to an ftp server. The broadcast originated on a 300 watt station on the east coast. Another station will be airing it in Amsterdam as well. They have 1kW.

I've been doing digital editing for 25 years! And I've been on internet ten years before the Web ever existed!
