There's a TOH WJR ID from the '80s on Youtube, I think it includes what you are referring to.

The top of the hour "tone" was still there when I left the Fisher Building for the last time, in the early 2000's. Not sure why they got rid of it. Whether intentional or not, the late Steve Stewart (former PD) seemed to enjoy cancelling stuff that was a long held tradition on WJR.

I can't recall if the "tone" or "bong" went away while Steve was in charge, or when the late Kevin Metheny (WNNNNBC!) was the PD. I'll ask someone who might know the answer.

R.I.P, Steve and Kevin.

Weird, nothing like that happened to me. In fact, I just went back and listened to it again from work). I think there's a little more to the story as far as the ransomware scare. Sorry it didn't work out for you, just trying to help.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

I have a damn nice stereo recording of WJR from 2000, and a really rich audio TOH ABC ID. Gotta post it. Unreal quality with Ed B setting the gold standard for audio processing.

Send a note to Mike Wheeler. Maybe he can bring back the TOH boing! with the new programming changes. It was still there when I worked there, 18 years ago.

Is the BOING exactly at the top of the hour? If not, how much is it off from the real time?

It was, and yes, it was precise. It would sound during Tiger Baseball, and even during a "breaking news" special report.
