Will Family Radio eventually exit terrestrial radio

Post by Heathcliff » Sat Mar 06, 2021 12:44 pm

Now, I'm talking about family radio, NOT Family Life radio or American family radio. The one with the late Harold Camping. Since his end of the world prediction went bust a decade ago, it's been a downward spiral. They had to sell strong FM signals off in major markets and settle for AM stations no commercial broadcaster wanted anymore.

As of late, every so often I read there selling a station or 2. Recently, they sold 2 in Pennsylvania and they sold 89.9 in Buffalo NY to EMF, about a year ago. IMO, despite the fact they have tried to distance themselves from the past, including purging themselves of anything related to Harold Camping. I think it's too late, my own view is they may sell of the rest of there stations or most of them, then just go online. They recently, in part moved to Tennessee due to costs of doing business in California. Will be interesting to see if any of this reverses there fortunes.

Last month they shut down WFME 1560 in New York, after they sold the land on which their towers were located for $50 M.

They didn't surrender their license. They say they'll be back again, but I doubt it.

They shut down their short wave operations in Fl, about 8 years ago. WRMI in Miami took over their facilities. WRMI sells block of broadcast time to various Christian broadcasters. I don't know why Family Radio wouldn't go that way. WRMI 's signals cover most of North America.

Please, sir, if Your Lordship does not mind, would Your Lordship move himself up upon me a little higher? You are crushing my chest and I am finding difficulty in breathing.

WRMI is shortwave, only us DXer’s tune in to that dying band. AM/MW is heading in the same direction, 10 years from now AM will be the new shortwave. All preachers all the time, and the Bible scriptures just keep on coming. It’s time to do the tribulation shuffle and here’s Robbie and the Rapture’s and their big hit “The Devil Made Me Do It”.

I don't have a religious bone in my body. But I always enjoyed the traditional Christian music they played. in recent months they were playing more and more contemporary music. It doesn't appeal to me at all.

They are always sending me e mails urging me to listen online. I always tell them the same thing

"I DON'T LISTEN TO ONLINE RADIO'.

So what's the deals with 1560 in NYC? If they go dark, then 1560 Toledo should be allowed to fire-up 1.5KW at night instead of 3 watts since the clear channel frequency in New York is unused, and I can't see how California can still dictate this ole daytimer frequency?
And wouldn't it be worth the money in the top market to put a clear channel signal back on 1560 ? Only need one tower, correct?

WFME still holds the license to operate on 1560 in NYC. I wonder how long they can hold the rights to that frequency when they aren't even using it.

They say they'll be back, but to buy the acreage for their towers would probably cost as much as they made selling their old piece of land.

Current law states that stations still must protect other stations operating on the same frequency, even if the station being protected goes dark or moves to FM (such as the case for many stations in Canada).

don't like that answer Rugrats...if a station goes dark for 2 years, especially the Canadian AM's that left for FM, and there is no chance of going back on the air, why not let other facilties upgrade their coverage?
