Here's a fine collection that has samples of some of his production work. I've been meaning to pick this up, and his passing has brought that back to mind.

Re: Thu. night - Saturday storm system
WOOD-TV is calling this "the worst storm in many years" for its viewing area. That is a remarkable statement considering many highly populated areas of West Michigan received 18 to 24 inches of snow over 2 to 3 days just ~40 days ago! And I don't recall that snowfall getting the big run-up this one...

Re: Dave Maurer - WSGW resigns
Is Dave now working somewhere else, then? If not, and he's chosen to not do so, then "retires" is an appropriate word, regardless of in what manner he initiated it. I heard nothing in his sign-off that would pair up with what the word "resign" implies. Technically correct, perhaps, but is that how D...

LeAnn Rimes did the "Hippo" remake in 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RQ69WwvtPc&ab_channel=LeAnnRimes-Topic That version's vocals are a lot better than those on the original, even if it has a bit of "hey, look at what song I'm doing" in the process. LeAnn didn't try to sing it in a artifici...

Re: Most hated Christmas songs
I understand the dislike for "Wonderful Christmastime". For years, I wondered why Paul took that route when he'd also written such classic songs with the Beatles. It sounded like a cheap knock-off in comparison to his much better work. In the past 10 years or so, though, I stopped wishing it was a b...

Re: Geroge Harrision - has it really been 21 years?
I've always liked "The Day The World Gets Round", which is a stylistic cousin to the All Things Must Pass album tracks, as well as "Sue Me, Sue You Blues", George at his acerbic best. He also name-checks the other Beatles on the title track.
I'm hoping the album gets the deluxe treatment next year.

Re: Favorite Short Lived Format
I was reading the thread looking for a WOWF/Wow-FM mention. I don't recall thinking much of the actual format, but their comedy stunting before it was epic. I'm sure I still I have some of it recorded on a tape somewhere. Great comedy/music bits. I also encountered Brad Bianchi somewhere back then -...

Re: Dave Maurer - WSGW resigns
That was a great way to end a career - simple and to the point. I recall Dave being just as Charlie described him in the message, and wish Dave well in his future. 55 years is an admirable run in broadcasting. (Shouldn't the topic name end with "...retires" instead of "resigns"? The latter implies s...

Re: Former WNEM retires
Jim's work usually contained more substance than a fair number of his contemporaries. A lot of the WNEM clips were of a lighter nature, but we've seen his other work on the various stations he was with.
Best of luck in retirement, Jim, and thanks for the work you did

Re: Songs that chart many years after their original release
"Twist And Shout" by The Beatles was a #2 hit in 1964 on Tollie Records, a subsidiary of Vee Jay Records. That same recording was reissued in 1986 by Capitol Records to capitalize on the song's inclusion in the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". It reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Cold Heart" is...

Re: Bobby Rydell
Two things I've learned about Bobby since his passing: 1) Rydell High in Grease was named after him. 2) I saw a used Rydell LP recently that featured other artists, and one of those was the Isley Brothers. If Rydell could be linked to a future Rock Hall act, even that early in their career, then he ...

I think I've heard CKWW playing "Mama Let Him Play" at some point in the last year. I also recall hearing it on CKLW back in its' time, or in the years shortly thereafter, and it may have also come up on CHYR or CFCO as well. A great AM radio single that never got far in the States.

Re: Deltaplex Permanenty Closing in July 2022
It cost $6 million to renovate in the late 90s, as I recall. That much just to make the place look like a warehouse from the outside? That's one of the ugliest arena buildings I've ever seen. Any conversion to actual warehouse or industrial use there is likely to result in a visual upgrade to the s...
