Re: Downriver AM transmitters
Is the 950 allotment in Barrie even usable now? There’s a 960 (CKNT) now in Mississauga, albeit it at under 1000 watts day. As long as CKBB 950 is in the international database, they have to protect it like it was an actual station with the specified facilities. When WYLL 1160 went to 50000 Watts N...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters
Isn't 910 down there too? Didn't they move there after moving out of Flint? It's in Carleton (an 8 tower array which is about half the size of Carleton itself). It booms at my in-laws house, right in their crosshairs. It actually has only a fair signal in the Eastern portions of the Detroit area. F...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters
Since Canada is shutting down Many high power AM stations, switching to FM , you think they could relax the protection rules from the US AM statons. I guess they expect the hunter/trappers who live in the far bush to toss out am radios and get satrellite radios. FM just does not usually go very far...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters
The reason that the WFDF signal is weaker on the Eastern part of the Metropolitan Area is that there is a null toward a VACANT allotment on 910 in Lindsay, Ontario that used to be occupied by CKLY. It likely will never be occupied now. The Reason WWJ is weaker on the FAR Eastern side of Michigan nea...

WWJ Newscaster Grant Hudson Passed Away December 16
Jim Reese, known as Grant Hudson on WWJ, and "Sarasota Jim" on various message boards, passed away December 16.
Why this is just on the Out of State board, just because he was at CKLW, is beyond me.
Few details are available at this point.

Re: MW DX
The last car we had with a tube car radio was a 1961 Oldsmobile, which we drove until 1965. We stayed a couple Summer vacations in a cottage on the South side of Crystal Lake. With the telescoping antenna fully extended, you could listen to WJR in the Daytime. I don't think the solid state radios we...

Re: Anne Carlini named AM drive host at WLLZ
I assume that a non compete clause expired. With Jim Harper at WLXT, I assumed that Anne would be at Black Diamond for a while. She and her husband now live in the Traverse area full time. I’m guessing she’s doing the WLLZ morning show via a ISDN line and/or a home studio from there Did she use tha...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits
I wish I knew what you were talking about. It has to do with being able to tune in a signal in any random location on an average or below average radio with little or no fiddling with the tuning and a telescoping or twin lead antenna at near ground level. The greater the absolute value of the minus...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits
WIOG had big ratings in Flint as CHR before WWCK-FM 105.5 went to CHR. Then they fell dramatically because a strong local signal was avaliable. I looked at that Bishop Airport Runway extension situation. It doesn't look like there is much room at the East end, as just beyond the safety zone just Eas...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits
Regarding the WCRZ tower height. Supposedly it's an FAA issue. Bishop Airport eliminated a runway that as I recall was a 5/23 runway along about a 50/230 axis. It's probably in their database still, and they probably won't relinquish control of that airspace. WTAC-TV 16 had a transmitting tower that...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits
FMFool at 30 feet. I wish I could copy and paste, The units are dBm, not dBu, but the dB difference is what is relevant. Neither WIOG nor WHNN is LOS, even at 30 feet AGL. WIOG is 1 Edge, WHNN is 2 Edge. WFBE Minus 12.9 dBm WWCK-FM Minus 16.7 dBm WCRZ Minus 24.1 dBm WDZZ-FM Minus 25.2 W293CA WSNL 10...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits
For many years, WNEM-FM/WGER had very good numbers in Flint with Beautiful Music, and rivaled WGMZ. A very common misconception is that WIOG and WHNN put City Grade 70 dBu signals over Flint. But it's 60 dBu at best over the central part of the county. WIOG just misses the Northwestern High School ...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits
But WTLZ is on a FIRST ADJACENT CHANNEL. Many people DRIVE from Genesee County to JOBS in Oakland County (US Census says around 25,000), and why shouldn't they be able to listen to their LOCAL stations on the way to work? They can't even listen peacefully to WCRZ with that blasted (and at the very l...
