Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits

This is happening to HUNDREDS of Class As ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. You'd think that CUMULUS would have objected to the supercharged translators on 92.7 and 105.5 on TV Transmitting Towers near Detroit. Those do interfere with their signals in areas where they were clear and listenable. And this is just...

Re: Best setup for reliable radio communications over 30 or 60 miles?

He was the one who said 10 watts QRP, not me. This was circa 1969, so I don't know when the 5 watt designation happened. 5 watts? That's what Dale Bickel gave the 106.7 translator for an STA in Petoskey. I guess it's a QRP STA. https://d114hh0cykhyb0.cloudfront.net/timthumb.php?h=480&q=90&src=https:...

Re: Best setup for reliable radio communications over 30 or 60 miles?

My high school neighbor at WB8APT, "WB8 Another Powerful Transmitter, running 10 watts QRP", built a low power transmitter, and put a decent ground wave 8 blocks away on 40 meters with a Magnavox AM/SW Portable.

All of this folderol is giving me a headache.
Here's a link to more "folderol" than you can digest in a lifetime. And plenty to peruse during the never-ending lockdowns. Enjoy. Happy Holidays!

Re: Reception issues with 102.7 K-Love???

Back in the 1960s, WXYZ-FM/WRIF was one of the strongest FM signals in Genesee County. The Electronics Class projects in previous years had built a Heathkit FM Tuner and Amplifier. Another project was speakers in the drop ceiling. They also put an old Channel 6 Yagi on the roof of the school, and so...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters

I don't know exactly how this pattern was designed by Glen Clark's supercomputer. He himself described the software as using "fuzzy logic". I had recently gained a rapport with Glen when he passed away, and I wish I had had time to discuss this design. I doubt if you could do exactly what you wanted...

Re: Numbers

Bob Liggett was from Utica, MI and graduated from Utica High School circa 1960, and lived in a subdivision behind the Big Boy Restaurant at Van Dyke and 21 Mile Rd, which was closed and torn down and replaced by a small shopping center. Around 1968, he was the Program Director for Metrocom, which ow...

Re: Reception issues with 102.7 K-Love???

Places like Livingston County and Northwest Oakland County have unique reception possibilities, being at high local elevation. The only problem is that you need a directional antenna to get everything you possibly can, both FM and TV. Otherwise, there is an advantage to being on one side of the ridg...

Re: Now we know where WQAN was broadcasting from!

From what I heard, Dave Schaberg is no longer with us. Mr. Schaberg came up with some of the upgrade plans. Not to diminish what he did accomplish, many were WAY too complicated, though, inviting a lot of Petitions to Deny and such. Henderson HAD a C2 CP for WQAN, which put a solid signal over Trav...

Also the Citizens Bank Christmas Eve Carol Sing. It was a broadcast remote from WFDF, but was carried on nearly all Flint stations. The simulcast ended when they went right into a WFDF jingle after the sing finished, and the folks from other stations got upset about it. For a while, the other statio...

Another Flint Christmas Memory

Little Becky's Christmas Wish-Becky Lamb-Another unusual Warner Brothers release from 1967. This one didn't have the staying power of "Midnight In Bethlehem", and it was controversial at the time. It's about Christmas, and soldiers not coming home for Christmas. Becky Lamb is the daughter of Bill La...

A Flint Radio Tradition For Many Years-"Midnight In Bethlehem"

It's been such a stressful year, I almost forgot that it is almost Christmas. This was a Christmas tradition started by the late PD Daniel J. Hunter at WFDF. "Midnight In Betlehem" by Warren Barker, from Warner Brothers in 1959. Interestingly, Saturn and Jupiter are supposed to coincide into the Chr...

Re: Impressive share for WISN

In the most recent ratings for Milwaukee, 1130 WISN managed to score a 12.7 share. That is the highest share of any station in any PPM market! Impressive for an AM with no FM translator: https://radioinsight.com/ratings/milwaukee/ I dare say a 250 watt traslator wouldn't have that much impact. 50 k...
