Re: Grayling Rocker

Most consultants would disagree. Tightly tested libraries are the only way to go...
Consultants are generally why terrestrial radio sucks so bad in general. Consultants suck the life out of any format they touch. There are a few good ones, but there are TONS of crappy ones out there.

Re: Blarney Stone Broadcasting and Roy Henderson

Nelson, I'd put money on the leaky coax being the reason you're seeing variations in the signals. LOL, when I said I was CE there "briefly", I meant it. Less than two months. Wild Bill was rough to work for, and I split as soon as I could. The studio facility wasn't that bad, but it was apparent tha...

Re: Blarney Stone Broadcasting and Roy Henderson

Regarding 100.3, FWIW. I was briefly the chief there during Gannon's era of penny-pinching destruction. Both of the FM sites were the favorite target for someone and their .22 LR or shotgun. The coax on both towers had been shot several times and I doubt they were ever replaced. Both transmitters fo...

I had ABC on, but muted, while I listened to my playlist. It was fun!

Re: WPON Update - 2019

As far as I can tell, they are using the North Rd. site. Weren't you out there with the late great Don McComb as assistant CE and the late great Johnny Cole? And the late great Tom Knight who was murdered, reportedly so they could sell his record collection? As far as format, I would go Foreign Lan...

Re: West Michigan Top-of-Hour IDs

You should take the botched/incorrect TOH clips and make one called "How NOT to ID your station".

Re: 1260 Zeeland Transmitter site burns

I had only heard a brief tidbit about the fire. This is the first I've seen of it, but I've been offline for a while. I'm glad they are rebuilding and that the pricks got caught. Sad, to say the least. WBRN... it still even exists? I haven't thought about WBRN in years. That station was like the opi...

Re: 1260 Zeeland Transmitter site burns

Easy to hear in Wyoming and Kentwood. For a Class A, WFGR's range and signal penetration is fairly impressive. (As an aside, I enjoy WFGR's programming.) I agree. We could get WFGR all the way to Allegan, halfway to Hastings and west to at almost Ionia. I actually can listen to WFGR. I just wish th...

Re: Re: WOOD Radio, I'd be curious to know...

I can tell you that, in most of Allegan county, WOOD is a phase-mixing nightmare from all the sharp nulls and lobes (mostly nulls, from the sound of it), especially in and around Sandy Pines RV park between Hopkins and Dorr. It's like patching an AM radio through an old-school phase shifter. I know ...

Re: WNEM's Newest Low

WNEM has been on the bottom for at least 20 years. WJRT is a wreck compared to that era as well. WEYI never really did as well as they could have, even after the NBC affiliation, so they're probably about the same. I watch very little local TV anymore.

Re: Subpar is the new normal

This is NORMAL when the station is run Un-attended, with no employees in the building and/or no one monitoring the on-air product. The station automation is often programmed by an intern or other inept employee who does not understand the basics of programming. The result is sometimes hours of dead...

Re: WPON Update - 2019

Is 1160 still using the North Rd towers in Fenton? I recall, from the WFEN/WACY era, the station was decent at the Flint township/Mt Morris township border, even at night. It was listenable anyway. WFEN was originated as a local service to the Fenton and northern Livingston/southern Genesee county s...

Re: Personal political opinions on news folks' Facebook page

I watch mostly foreign news. As of late, I've noticed RT from Russia is going a bit toward "maybe we need someone crazy like Trump" in the past week, where all other networks, BBC especially, are in full-blown "OMG the sky fell last night". That said, right-wing parties in Europe have gone wild sinc...

Re: Personal political opinions on news folks' Facebook page

I still believe it's unprofessional for personal political opinions on journalists' Facebook pages. I fail to see anything "professional" about US media anymore. They only report what will cause controversy and ignore stories of real importance, or spin them left or right to fit their agendas. I do...
