Re: WSRJ Sold

I wonder if the people inside Northern Michigan Radio realize how quickly their business is dying? All these stations being sold for pennies on the dollar. If the rumor is true and Midwestern sells, it's a good bet half of those jobs will be lost. Midwestern isn't going anywhere, they were the firs...

It would appear they specialize in smaller markets so I would say yes, they would buy.
I'm surprised they are not in Ohio, but in other states all around it.

Re: Beauty-ful Downtown Falmouth

I went for a loong ride to check it out one day. Very nice sizeable store with a small store feel. I even rode the elevator that we have all heard about many times. I must say there is nothing really beautiful about downtown Falmouth, just farm industry, old buildings etc. an inside joke I guess.

Oh yea, she has a place in Elk Rapids. I'm only glad restaurants did open as my wife and I had her Birthday and our 25 Anniversary out of a paper bag. Today we SAT DOWN in the La Senorita and had our first taste of freedom.

Re: Blarney Stone broadcasting opens a Go Fund Me page.

What I remember about that station were the weather updates straight from the National Weather Service in Houghton Lake. The actual NWS meteorologists gave a brief summary and then read the forecast. Very unique! I don't know of any other commercial radio station with such an arrangement. We did th...

101.1 gry Needs to go back to country I liked 101.1 back when they were WQON owned by Gannet News? or something like that. The format well I don't know what you call it but played a lot of popular music. I had a button on my car set to it and could hear it in the TC area if I was a bit South of town.

Re: Unusual DX for me.

Back when people were doing this, I used to get reports from South Ill. on our AM-580 station as well as many from Finland, all always at our night time power of 500 watts. Never of our 50k daytime power. Now days the internet has done away with most of the hobby.

Re: WXII Ch. 12 analog -- Approved OTA plan

If they were thinking of a flash cut, it'd be different filings with the FCC. They still could do that--there's no penalty for not seeing through an approved construction permit document.

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

Looks like they are now broadcasting in 480p hd digital on cable for Mi TV 12. Feeds a little choppy and so is news net(formerly minews 26) but the quality is really good now compared to Its Analog feed.
I noticed this a few days ago. Still needs some work but much better than before.

CKLW was famous for doing this.
It could be that CKLW did this, but I never noticed it at age 17. CKLW used to piss off the Cleveland broadcasters by being at or near the no. 1 ratings. It came into Cleveland like a strong local signal and everybody had a button on the car radio set to "CK"

Re: Music squeeze on some stations

How old are you guys? This has been going on since the '60's when DJ's would wrap a file folder label on the turntable capstan to speed up the record. Faster they go, the more they could play. I'm 68 and didn't hear this on the Cleveland stations I grew up with. Your turntable trick would be very a...

Music squeeze on some stations

Some of the stations in the TC area squeeze the music. It plays faster without changing pitch. Anyone who knows the music will notice the pace has changed, and the song ends early. It is an awful part of processing that ruins the the work of the original artist. If they wanted it that fast they woul...
