Re: WPON Update - 2018
I have done a lot of investigation of this. Many of the studies are online. WYLL is the most restrictive requirement, even more than KSL because of the proximity. The NIF of WYLL is fairly low despite KSL interference, because it is a long ways away. You need to protect the whole 0.5 mV/m 50% skywav...

Re: WPON Update - 2018
The clowns at WPON were just fined $18,000 by the FCC. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/173079/fcc-report-12-23-government-building-a-wall-around-fcc-activity/. Arthur give us your take/comment on this supplied by MWmetalhead: Birach Broadcasting’s 1460 WPON Walled Lake MI has been issued an $18,...

WFDF Christmas Blast From The Past!
Flint and Genesee County Listeners of WFDF will remember this. Dan Hunter used to play this around Christmas, but as they say, it was "not available in stores". Turns out it was the B Side of a promotional Warren Barker Christmas Single, Catalog # WB 5118. Older people, enjoy a bit of Flint nostalgi...

Re: WPON Update - 2018
They could use whatever towers they can and a few new ones to build an array that would send the WCXI signal North at Night and send some East like the WYLL pattern, since under proposed rules, existing stations won't have as strict of a NIF requirement for Minor changes for an existing COL, in this...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation
MW Said: My guess is Cumulus/WLAV is having to wait a very long time for a directional antenna to be manufactured that meets the necessary specs for the GVSU site.
There's someone on this board who could do it.

The four things in the FM DXers Wish Book: 1) Extremely Directional High Gain Antenna at 30 AGL on a deluxe rotator. 2) An extremely selective tuner like the old McIntosh MR-78 or MR-80. 3) A method of noise cancelling IBOC sidebands on first adjacent channels. 4) A detector capable of detecting cap...

The Booming Voice Of MW Said: When I attended U-M, I remember the Urban AC station from Cleveland at 93.1 MHz interfering with DRQ from time to time. WMMS also used to override WITL quite a bit. On the North Campus, near where they were going to put the WUOM-TV Channel 26 tower way back, near the "...

Re: WMXD interference
Terrain issues are very important in FM BC reception, much more than early propagation models accounted for. It took until reasonably priced software became available, it was difficult to visualize where terrain holes and terrain shielding occurred. You literally had to tape several USGS Topographic...

I've heard Indian Head before, when it was WBZE and it was in English. Art Vuolo was seriously perturbed that not only was it stepping all over WBZ, it had stolen the call letters. I've seen Indian Head, too, but not in a long time. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ad/RCA_Indian_Head...

Re: The Old FM Band 42-50mhz
Well, the wavelength is 6-7 meters, so a 1/4 wave is 1.5-1.75 meters, so without some serious loading coils, 5-6 feet. Replacement antennas would be an industry in itself. In a typical 8 foot ceiling room, you'd always be scraping the ceiling. A half wave dipole would be 11 feet long, bigger than ma...
