Re: Night time FM E-Skip

Right now at 11:15 EDT I have it on 88.7 and KUHF from Houston is coming in over top of Pure Country 89. Is it common for this to happen at this hour? It's not "common" but not uhheard of. The amateur 6 meter band (50MHz) was also open to the west and south last night around that same time of night...

Re: Field Day

All clubs' Field Day sites welcome visitors, both hams and from the general public. Some have a separate "GOTA" (Get on the Air) station set that unlicensed visitors can operate (with a licensed control operator on hand). For those not familiar with this annual nationwide, event, here's info about i...

Re: Kudos to channel 7; thumbs down to everyone else

Hey WDIV, it's annoying AF that the storm warning ticker is accompanied by a trio of loud warning "bongs" that mute the on-camera talent's program audio, which seems might just be relevant to the immediate conditions.

[EDIT] Well, I thought they may have figured this out. But, no.

Re: SiriusXM

So that's just the post above that says there's a free offer.
Doesn't address the question about traffic reports for Mid-Michigan, which still are not a thing on SXM.

Re: Last Electronics Store

Wow... this thread gets me wondering... Silverstines ... where was this? I distinctly remember that name, and may have been there but don't recall where it was. Lambrecht .... Was this the one on Gratiot just north of 10 mile? (that would put it in Roseville, but barely north of East Detroit). Hal'...

Re: Sinclair wants you to buy new TVs

In Detroit, The Pearl TV consortium uses WMYD as the ATSC 3.0 host for many separate streams of competing originators. The main services of WXYZ, WMYD, WJBK, WDIV, WWJ are carried as ATSC 3.0 OFDM on Scripps' RF 31 transmitter/antenna in Oak Park. If you look at what actual transmitters and location...

Re: Last Electronics Store

Anything like it in MI >? I used to ride my bike to Bauers Industrial in old redford in Detroit ! Bought Xtals to use in my novice station from them.. I only got to Bauer a few times before he closed up, I think in the late 80s-early 90s. It had that characteristic smell, like every old ham's basem...

Re: Seeking Receiver recommendations

I have a Sangean ATS 909 that I keep in Florida. It's an excellent radio. https://www.sangean.com/en/product/ats-909x2-graphite Thanks for all the opinions and recommendations. My friend has purchased the Sangean ATS 909, considering it the best choice to replace his departed Sony, and at a reasona...

Seeking Receiver recommendations

A friend's venerable Sony ICF-2001 has crossed the radio bridge, beyond repairability, forever silent. He is now shopping for a similarly capable replacement. I've suggested he look at models from Sangean, Eton, Tecsun and CCrane. Any individual units among these worthy of a long look, or particular...

Re: NBC 24 Ending News Operations

I even got into a rather pointless discussion with a young friend who decried the need for cable since "we just stream over wifi". She was not able to understand that her "wifi' got to her home via cable. That's all a bit more confusing now, with T-Mobile's home service, basically a "hot spot" whic...

Darnell with MDOT camera showing a nearly empty 696 near Gratiot: "Traffic volumes are starting to pick up here!" I literally saw four cars total in the shot. Holy crap does this guy suck at his job. Re: Hampton Inn

The last hotel room I stayed in did have a clock. Come nighttime, Its blue-green LED display shone with the light of a thousand suns, and I could not find a display dim or cut switch or control. I ended up simply putting one of those dozen extra throw pillows in front of it. I couldn't just unplug i...
