Re: Exodus at Pierson Road continues
The more things change, the more they stay the same: WEYI for 40+ years has consistently been a run-on-the-cheap operation with high turnover, regardless of who owned the place. When I was a Master Control Switcher at channel 25 from April to November 1980, approximately a third of the staff both o...

Re: Specs Howard passes away at age 96
I knew nothing about broadcasting when I first walked into Specs in 2003. I’ve done nothing BUT broadcasting since that day.
I know the school wasn’t perfect, but everything is what you make of it.
RIP Specs

Re: WXYZ needs a new studio
As good as keys are these days, do you really need a studio? Yes… and no. It takes about the same amount of work to create a virtual set as it does to create an actual set. Even with the advancements in virtual set CK tech… you’re still limited with shots/camera movement in ways that you aren’t wit...

Re: Is DTE's ad $$$ influencing local media coverage of power outages?
DTE staff admitted me that one line tripped out during the storm, and it took them 3 days to verify there was nothing wrong with the line and to reenergize it. Wow! That's mismanagement. There were at 300K out, Mr. A. They are working 16 hour days. Give 'em a break! Maybe they could find some money...

Re: Is DTE's ad $$$ influencing local media coverage of power outages?
Maybe they could find some money by trimming the salaries and benefits of their executive board. I don’t know how those people sleep at night.

Re: Goodnight and Good Luck
Herm, it’s her newsroom now. She could have tried to keep Kim. There’s was nothing more than a feeble attempt. It shows a lack of leadership on Karin’s part (well documented with her time at WNEM) about taking care of those who do all the heavy lifting. Karin has zero plan on how to address low wag...

Re: Goodnight and Good Luck
Congrats to another one of my former colleagues who today called it quits. There are a lot of people behind the scenes who make the TV magic happen everyday. One of those was Kim Willis, a Newscast Director turned News Producer. A great person behind the scenes that helped raise the quality of jour...

Re: NBC 10pm
They could air the same newscast on both stations. It’s not exactly competing. I didn’t see anything in the article stating whether NBC would require affiliates to air a 10pm news. If they keep their late-night programming schedule the same, affiliates could still do news at 11 and fill the time bef...

Re: WXYZ Woodward dream cruise
I watched little bit of the replay this morning and wasn't quite impressed but will keep judgement down until I get through the whole thing. Do those local communities sponsor the show? The part I did see included the clip from WB and the whole time I was watching it I was thinking to myself "what'...

Re: WXYZ Woodward dream cruise
I get it if you don’t enjoy the spots to promote the cities that participate in the Dream Cruise, but the show is recorded live-to-tape. My question is, what difference would it make if the show was done live? The inserts would still be there. The promotional spots for Royal Oak, Ferndale, Berkley, ...

Re: Anything new happening at 25?
Herm is one of the few people on this board that actually engages in a productive conversation. While I disagree with him on this topic, he never resorts to name calling… unlike Matt, Dudley and others. I think we can both agree that this new ND will be better than the administration that was in ch...

Re: Anything new happening at 25?
Herm, either Becky doesn’t know… or doesn’t care. You were at 25 when Kathy Reynolds ran the newsroom and burned every bridge possible. You can’t tell me that the ability to lead an organization ends with “well, she wasn’t convicted of a felony”. Either Becky and Scott Livingston are OK with bringi...

Re: Anything new happening at 25?
OMG. How many bad hiring decisions can one station make? This is Becky’s first major hire and this is the News Director she picks? Karin’s record of driving down WNEM’s product… then she is run out of Kansas City after a 9 month stint. Becky and Scott Livingston must not have had time to do backgro...

Re: WXYZ leads with fake weather news at 5PM
I commend Herm for his honesty. Overly dramatic because I used the word "bullshit" ? I guess I respectfully disagree. WXYZ should stop leading its newscast with fake weather news if it cares about credibility. Glenda Lewis was anchoring the 5PM show yesterday for those curious. Not her fault. She j...
