Re: lack of radio posts

My post is a mish-mash of varying thoughts about Detroit radio. As a field trip in middle school around 1997, we visited Q95. I thought a radio station was the coolest thing. I attended CMU majoring in Broadcast Arts and Cinema, but I changed majors after 3 years of it. A bit heartbreaking, because...

Re: lack of radio posts

Speaking of abrasive voices, who's the screechy shrew doing midday's on WOMC? Nails on a chalkboard voice aside, she comes across completely unlikeable. That they put that on and pull a 7 share tells you everything you need to know about Detroit radio. Not sure why they wouldn’t have given middays ...

Re: lack of radio posts

Detroit Radio is BORING, with too many stations being more than 50% voice-tracked. They are just cash-cows for Audacy, iHeart, and Beasley, with too few local personalities. They are milking the pandemic as an excuse for not bringing more local talent back, while they line their pockets more than e...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

Are the storms heavier and more severe this summer, or does the newer warning system (marginal, slight, enhanced) for thunderstorms just make it feel this way? It feels like the “here’s another bad storm coming” from the local tv folks is a few times a week thing….

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

Any comments from the experts on: *Tuesday’s quick-moving storms? Dew points were very pleasant up until the late morning, and it was seasonably cool. *Paul Gross called for these storms quite accurately by Sunday morning. *The wacky High Wind Warning that was in effect for about 90 minutes last nig...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

Questions/comments for the group: 1) Why haven’t we had any “Ozone Action Days” lately? I’m surprised…. 2) Paul Gross talked for days last week about the cool, pleasant days planned for this weekend; but that obviously changed…thoughts? 3) This long term (seems like all summer) pattern of such high ...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

To jaded or MW, or anyone who might know: *Customarily, storms of a severe nature seem to lesson in intensity towards the late evening or overnight. I wonder why this hasn’t been the case lately…. *Has this been a relatively rough storm season? It seems like we’ve had some calm summers the last few ...

Re: Radio ratings 1993-94

https://youtu.be/eGfuHWRY5vg Air check from 1996, not terribly long after the flip to WDRQ. I remember mornings being jockless initially, with Bobby Ocean doing voiceovers. Then it was briefly Lynne Woodison with Tim Siegrist. After that, it was Mark Mitchell with Sharon Foster and Trixxie Deluxxe ...

Re: Radio ratings 1993-94

With regards to Star 97, they sounded great IMO in September 1994 when they debuted. As Flagg notes, all of the Barry White, Chi Lites, Blue Magic, etc. music was gone by 1995. Stevie Wonder was one of the few Black artists left. So the playlist got really small and stale. Towards the end they pushe...

Re: Would this be a good move for 98.7?

I’d love to see a format that picked up where WHYT was with their ‘Channel X’ format in 1994 and included music along those lines to 2003 or so. Bring back Greg St. James or Scott Vertical to hold morning drive, with a music intensive format the rest of the day.

Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM

Wow...IMO the station continues to be a train wreck. No jingles, very little production, and I feel that I’m hearing the same 200 songs over and over.

Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM

I listened further, and fully realized how bad it sounds now. I guess the guy doing the liners must have done it very cheaply. Without the fun elements, I would rather listen to a 70s station on Pandora.

Re: No More Jingles on 70'son7 SXM

Did someone forget to pay the jingle bill? Lol

IMO, it sounds sleepy and cheap without them. What are they thinking? Plus Magic Matt sounds like he is doing his drops from a cell phone.

Re: Brandon Roux can't forecast...

To Brandon’s credit, NOAA was calling for the winds to slowly decrease from this morning, but for gusts still in the 20s mph range late in the afternoon. The winds calmed at a quicker rate than expected.

In Northville this afternoon, it was mostly cloudy.
