Re: Network tv switch, nearly 25 years later: who was the winner?

Steve Korvette is correct, WGPR-TV was always a full power TV station. It was on UHF, which limited their service area to nearly a strict line of sight. This sounds like a hit job that Channel 2, 4,and 7 sales departments might have done to undermine UHF competitors. That included 20, 50, and 56 on ...

Re: Aurora Borealis AM BCB DX Pilots

I should have specified BCB, but its good to look at WWV/H 2500 kHz, CHU 3330 kHz, WWV/H 5000 kHz, CFRX 6070 kHz, CHU 7850 kHz, and WWV/H 10000 kHz.

Aurora Borealis AM BCB DX Pilots

The Northern Lights have been predicted tonight. Some of my predictive DX Pilots. Signs of impending display. All nearby stations will have nearly Daytime signal condiions (Groundwave) with Night facilities. Here's some to note in SE MI. 600 WSNL No cochannel QRM from WMT and CKAT. 730 WVFN No cocha...

WKQZ Signal

How is the signal on WKQZ in Saginaw and the South part of the Tri Cities Market? Does it have a noticeably weaker signal there?

Is there significant listening in the areas from Pinconning to West Branch and beyond? Do they get significant revenue from the Northern regions?

There are some advantages to the "old" mechanical switches and timers, whether they are in your kitchen appliances, washing machines, dryers, and home irrigation equipment (AKA sprinkler timers). Oh. Thermostats. They don't have hundreds of PN junctions that can blow out in thunderstorms, high elect...

Re: Day & Night at WDTW (AM)

The acceptance of that large of an augmentation is problematic to me. I noticed that a year or so ago. You do realize that there is only 5000 watts to radiate. If it's going South, there has to be a real reduction to the North, or somewhere, like above the horizon. I learned this from Carl Smith's c...

Re: Day and night at WDTW (AM)

Driving home from work several days ago, I had been listening to WDTW (AM) on the way home from work, and I was surprised to hear them make their pattern change (2 tower DA to 6 tower DA) at 5:15 PM, when there was plenty of daylight left in the day. Another day, I noted that they had a strong sign...

Re: 98.7 signal in Genesee County

Was it at Night, Ed? Have you noticed that for the first time since they were constructed in 1930, the two towers that supported the WFDF Hammock antenna used by WFDF from 1930 to 1941 (and AUX until 1952) are now lighted with FAA Beacons? No, it was afternoon. I haven't noticed the old WFDF downto...

Re: 98.7 signal in Genesee County

I was driving across Flint on I-69 and punched up 98.7, which I have for listening to WFGR when we are out west. I remember in the WLLZ days, they came in quite well around the county, whereas now, they are quite weak and noisy. I just wondered if perhaps they've changed towers or patterns since th...

Re: 98.7 signal in Genesee County

The Good Old Days of FM in Flint I think both the first adjacent interference from WOWE and the IBOC desensitization may be involved. The whole band is noisier. In the glory Days it came in well in Flint. I used to listen to WKNR-FM further down that tower in the mid 1960s with a turnstile antenna a...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

Before we were so rudely interrupted by the computer hack destroying our painstaking work, we had determined that the WBBL tower site was not suitable for a permanent location for WLAV, because of short spacing to WQHH DeWitt and possibly WUFN Albion, even under Section 73.215. Unless some major rul...

If you or anyone has a decent fairly recently calibrated AM BC FI meter, I am willing to go half for a one half Time Share agreement, with a buyout option. I'm within an hour of many of you, including two or more Eds. IM me with details.

Re: Looking for antenna advice

If you remove corrosion from the terminals, they should be OK. I guess technically the capacitors could go bad, but they are not electrolytics, so it is not likely to be that bad. Some kind of ceramic dielectric I think. Talk about every video under the sun. Here's a video of a guy blowing up cerami...
