Re: Console television sets

The change from picture tube to the new flat screen TVs happened so rapidly, there must have been a lot of the old style TVs left unsold. Eh, it didn't happen that quickly. Plasma flat-screen TVs were introduced 25 years ago, in 1997. They quickly earned a reputation for very high energy usage and ...

Re: Console television sets

For what it's worth, a furniture and appliance store here in Manistee sold new console TVs until they ceased operations around 2006. There was always one by the entrance where you couldn't miss seeing it. They claimed it was a slow but steady seller. I think they were from GE.

Re: Worst Cartoon You Can Remember Growing Up (Or In General)

Baggy Pants and the Nitwits was the worst of several lame NBC cartoon series I recall from my youth.

Re: WLUC fires Weather Staffer

The last I heard, 19 was assigned to Calumet. Is the station located in the Houghton area? Your information is slightly out-of-date. 19 was originally assigned to Houghton in the 1952 Table of Allotments. 25 was later added as an ETV allotment. Marquette originally had 5 and 17. In or around 1965, ...

Re: WLUC fires Weather Staffer

Karl Bohnak is back on the air; he's the chief meteorologist for TV-19 now. Interesting, MW...I'd tune into CBS 19 News to see Karl doing the weather again. I'm anxious to see a CBS 19 newscast and note how it compares to the early days of WBKP's Action 5 News . Having Karl on board gives them a fa...

Re: New digital converter

If your old converter got all the channels you want, why not look for the exact same model on eBay?

That would be a lot more straightforward than making antenna system modifications in a possibly-futile effort to get the new box to work.

Re: NBC on WBKB

It's because there are no reliable fringe service stations anymore because of the limitations of digital TV signals. In the old days. before network switching, you could get NBC analog signals from WNEM 5 Bay City and WTOM 4 Cheboygan around Alpena with a moderate to good outdoor antenna. There was...

Re: WWTV at low power?

I'm glad to hear full power has been restored; let's hope it stays that way for a long time. The 9 signal at my site in Manistee now seems significantly better than it was when the old transmitter was at full power. Here's hoping that their troubles are behind them. The MeTV subchannel is being IDe...

Re: How many miles do you put on your car per year?

I put about 18,000 miles a year on my Kia Soul. My aging parents live 300 miles away, so that figure may drift upward in the coming years.

So, TT, what kind of cars did you have back in the day? I bet you once owned a Pontiac Laurentian... Never. My dad was die hard MoPar. It was like a religion with him. He might not have allowed a GM vehicle in his driveway. He'd be turning over in his grave if he knew the crap I'm driving today. I ...

Somehow, there seems to be more dignity in a rusted old truck than in one that's been repainted and dressed up with chrome parts A truck that looks like that Fargo just makes you wonder about all the fun times and adventures that were had by the people who used it so much. The folded-under front li...
