Re: Trials of restoring Heathkit DX-35
Yes the panels were dark turquoise I recall... forgot about the WDEY transmitter... totally Was there also one at WFEN or was that a Continental? I'm thinking the latter now... There was a BTA 1 at WGRY when I was there. I could never get that thing past 85% positives, but I wasn't there very long t...

Re: Trials of restoring Heathkit DX-35
Which BTA5, audiophile? The only one I've personally had experience with was at WTRX. That was the main TX at least until Cu bought the place. Not sure if they run it or replaced it since then.

Re: Trials of restoring Heathkit DX-35
I considered solid-stating the power supply, but I decided that having the B+ on the plates immediately with this rig would be a bad thing... I've been toying with the idea of just homebrewing it into a kinda "URR navy transmitter" looking rackmount rig, 2 band screen mod AM with like 20 watts PEP o...

Re: Trials of restoring Heathkit DX-35
The power supply was the first thing I did, the caps were physically leaking. I changed the bleeder resistors as well. I generally change the PS caps by default in anything more than a few years old. I also found a shorted ceramic B+ bypass cap in the plate circuit and replaced all other paper and e...

Re: City Shopping
I've really been struggling with having to relocate somewhere just to live. Ten years ago, my wife and I both were hit with severe medical crap which put us on SS disability. Personally, my income dropped from >$125k a year to we both make $2100 a month *combined*. Up until last fall, we received SN...

Re: Trials of restoring Heathkit DX-35
Greifkit, indeed... I've built a handful of them in my life... I was pretty poor myself growing up, seems that when I *could* afford that stuff, other things always too precedent. Now, I find myself poor again, and basically doing radio from the curbside. Frankly, if I cannot get this thing to run r...

Re: I'm still kicking...
Thank you folks! As for the statins, been off them since 2013 and cholesterol. trigs are normal now. I agree the fats, and cholesterol, were demonized in order to push more carbs on us, likely intentional. I *never* trust corporations of ANY type anymore. In 2012, I was on 18 different meds a day, I...

Yeah, someone broke in and put those keys on my keyboard! I'll bet it's the Feds... Or Brother Stare!
Actually, though, I knew this worked in editors and such, but I don't think I ever tried it on a web browser. :_

Re: Brother Stair still on the radio
I call him Brother Stare, LOL... he is ALL over shortwave, well beyond those 2 stations mentioned. He just purchased the entire overnight block on Channel 292 SW out of the Netherlands. If someone hooked a linear to a baby monitor on 49MHz, he'd probably buy time on it!

Trials of restoring Heathkit DX-35
I was given an old DX-35 CW/AM transmitter by a friend. This thing has been sinking my time for the last 2 months. It had several mods done to it, including a large meter (since replaced with a square of sheet metal) and also had the wrong rectifier tube. A couple things about this beast: - The powe...

Re: Realistic DX 160
I had one, and I loved it. The speaker was awful though, and I changed a few parts in the audio section so that it restored audio response from about 100Hz to around 10kHz. I loved the LW band on this back in the day, when you could actually hear Euros coming in, especially in the winter. I have it'...

Re: WBCQ - Toledo?
WBCQ SW still uses the calls, but since shortwave is a different service than domestic broadcasting, the calls can also be allocated elsewhere in other services. Same, evidently, for AM, FM and TV calls, which in some cases, Wxxx-AM and Wxxx-FM calls are spread apart by several hundreds or thousands...
